Have walked better tracks.
Walk along beach is lovely, hilltop and skull peak. It felt weird staying in a hut with motorbikes, quad bikes zooming around the paddock and we had walked 6 hours in. I didnt like how they picked you up in a van to take you to the next place. So it didnt flow so well.

Be aware that not all rooms are created equal.
We had bad rooms next to kitchen with no views (unlike all other walkers). Another nearest to generator, and a room so hot we had to sleep on floor. We had drunken noisey people on our trip who screeched so loud we got headaches.
At the next lodge we were closest to the generator and drying room. We were told we one of first to book. so were undervalued.
The other thing I missed about freedom hiking was the ability to do what you wanted when you wanted. The regimented meal times, hiking times etc was not our usual experience of hiking. And there is something immensely satisfying with cooking a simple meal over a cooker and enjoying it under the stars.

Amazing, Got to do it.
This is one of those adventures that you are part of. The boat trip over is lovely. But walking around an active volcano is like being on the moon. I loved the colours, the smells, the sights. Tour leader very good. MUST DO

Beautiful scenery, wonderful company in our small group of 7 plus guide.
We had a fantastic morning on the water to sandfly point, bowen waterfall, base of Mitre peak. The water was calm as silk. Saw penguins, seals, seagull chicks. Loved the scenery though and it just seems more spectacular from water level. We were with family who were non-kayakers and we were all catered for. I also really appreciated that they were a local company with kiwi guides.

We had 14 passengers and it was a bit crowded.
Had to wait for fishing, wait for kayaking, wait for toilet, wait for showers. However, it was a totally brillant trip. I loved the food, scenery and taking part in lobster haul. I think the crew needed a break as they seemed to be going through the motions. Its not a luxury boat at all, but its an adventure and fun. The bunkhouse is very basic but comfortable. I think the price was fair considering the food, boat, activities and just getting there over Lake Manapouri and Wilmot pass. I will be back one day.
Thankyou for your candid comments. We're looking forward to having you back some day.
For the record we have 4 toilets, 3 showers, 8 kayaks and 7 fishing poles aboard.
