cool idea and a good oportunity to see different parts of the city.
the track is excellent signposted and there are free maps avaliable at iSite. Nice views from Mt. Eden and One Tree Hill.

great view - BUT: the facillities desperately needs some renovation / extension!
only 2 showers / toilets for this ammount of people is simply insufficient. lot of things were broken or not working, for example no hot water in the kitchen, toiletdoor could not be locked, etc. furthermore it was quite dirty, especially the shower was rather disgusting.
all in all not good value for money, which is a pity, cause the location is great!

one of the best campsites we've visited in NZ!
it's so cosy and calm, facillites were super clean and staff was lovely! great value for money! there is a river next by and a short, nice walk in the village. we really enjoyed our stay here :-)

felt a bit like on a building site, since there were several renovation work in progress.
although, everything was working fine and we got a very cosy and calm site. the new owners craig and jenny are very friendly and professional, we felt comfortable and enjoyed our stay!

great hike in a very impressive scenery!
the walkway is long, but technical easy - pretty touristy (maybe a bit too much?) - but be aware from the weather! we started at sunshine and about 20 degrees and ended up on the tongariro summit in very stong wind and rain with about 5 degrees... unfortunately, due to a big cloud, we didn't have a good view, but the walk is impressive anyway. i hope i can do it again in better weather some day :-)

especially the new area with the native animals is worth a visit!

although the trip is pretty expensive, its recommendable!
it is a unique experience to walk on an active volcano and we've been well guided; peejay-staff did a good job! and as bonus, we also saw dolfins during the boat-trip :-)

not that overcrowded as other thermal parks.
friendly staff (boat driver, cashier), impressive landscape, nice walkways. worth visiting.

we hired a campervan (budget 2 berth), which was very good value for money!
the lady in auckland, where we pick up the van, was very friendly and in such a good temper, her smile was contagious :-)

challenging, but rewarding!
when we climb a summit in our homecountry switzerland, we mostly see other summits from the top. here, we saw an ocean of clouds and only far, far away the summits of ruapehu and ngauruohe. felt like on top of the world, so amazing and impressive! pretty much the best experience during my whole NZ-journey :-)

we had diner in the orbit restaurant, which was very good, but not that cheap.
advantage: with the confirmation mail of your table-reservation, you get a free entry in the tower. view up there is amazing, especially during sunset!

a beautiful place to stay!
we had a powered site with absolute beachfront, which was great! i could imagine that its a bit noisy in other parts of the camp, as there were a lot of families with children. but it seems, that staff separates it a bit, which is creditable. generally staff was very friendly and helpful, we felt very comfortable!
some more / bigger facillities would be preferable, cause with this amount of guests, we mostly had to queue to do the dishes or to take a shower.

some very impressive things to see, for example the champagne pool.
incredibile colours...
but the whole park is very touristy. and the lady knox geysir is a bad joke: the eruption is been simulated by adding soap! disapointing, if you saw "real" geysirs allready...
