Beautiful location, and fantastic newly constructed DOC path up the valley - there's a beautiful stream (lots of fun for kids) and if you look carefully on the walk you can see all sorts of relics of the
former gold mine workings. Very pleasant staff. Facilities very basic, but well maintained and we were lucky enough to have our own in the camper van!

Great fun!
Our kids insisted on going back a second time. Lots of fun digging pools and getting to know your neighbours (the hot water area is quite compact)! In fact the beach is enormous, so make sure you have time to enjoy the main beach as well as the hot water ;-)

We were lucky enough to have beautiful weather out of season!
We stayed in our camper van with a friend and her son in a tent next to us. The setting is glorious with instant access to the beach, straight over the dunes (no road). The staff were very pleasant and helpful. The facilities were clean, but a little tired.

We hired a 4 berth motorhome for our family (we have two boys aged 7 and 10) and drove from Christchurch to Auckland in around 3 weeks.
We had a fabulous holiday, staying in all sorts of locations from serviced sites to basic DOC sites. The van was a great base for all our activities. It wasn't cheap, but the quality was excellent and everything worked :-)

as others have said, the facilities are a little tired, but we enjoyed our stay and it was not expensive

Very quiet and secluded location, beach on your doorstep and brand new toilets! Facilities new and well maintained.
