Beach front campground with beautiful sunrise views over the bay.
Some spots were quite sandy so careful with heavy RV's. Clean toilets and hot showers (1$ for 2 mins). Some road noise from nearby highway.

Powered sites also. Very clean toilets. Not the most scenic campground but very decent for an overnight stop.

Lake campground with nice views.
Toilets were not so clean (there was a dump next to the toilet) . A very loud dirt bike and quad were crossing the grounds in the morning. Locals arrived in trucks and were shouting. So much for peaceful camping...

Great freedom camping spot at Aratiata lake and dam.
Toilets were clean, no water taps though. Visitors for the Huka falls cruise from 9 am until 6 pm, after that really quiet.

Very spacious parking lot next to 'lake' (more of pond, really).
Lots of geese, which were quite noisy during the night. But... Free hot showers! Good for an overnight stop.

Forest campground at beginning of trail.
Long drop toilets and shower were disgusting (dirt and very strong ammonia smell). There were more people than spots available, even though we reserved our spot online. Not DOC-worthy.

Rather noisy with heavy traffic in the morning and lots of trucks stopping to use toilets. Toilets were clean.

Long drop toilets. Heard kiwi at night. About 6 spots only so get there in time.

Beautiful campground on a small beach in a quiet bay.
Squeecky clean toilets and (cold) showers. Very helpful and friendly ranger, told us how to spot kiwi's in the area. Couple of nice trails nearby. Very remote though, so bring enough supplies.

Beautiful campground in middle of bird reserve.
Heard plenty of kiwi at night. Not bad waking up to lots of pukeko, haha. Beautiful beach at walking distance and plenty of Hikes nearby.
