Stayed for 2 nights.
Perfectly placed for a day trip to Cape Reinga and the Te Paki sand dunes. Booking was a hassle though. The online payment facility wasn't working properly and when I phoned they asked me for all my card details including the 3 numbers on the back!
I was given a site on the lower section next to the road between some well dug in residents complete with cat and compost bin and the camp managers. No room to comfortably sit outside.
You do get 1GB wifi per day free, everything else is to be paid for. My phone signal down there was non exsistent. I would ask for a site on the higher level if you're planning to go.

I stayed here just need in my camper.
Quite expensive as they charge the same for 2 people as they do for 1. They did give a 20% discount for NZMCA membership though. I had a beachfront site and at first felt a little uneasy as I was right next to some locals camping just the otherside of the fence however, I soon relaxed and all was good. The view and the bay is spectacular, relaxing and beautiful. Swimming totally safe for kiddies. Really didn't want to leave.

Fabulous spot.
Great staff. I booked two nights in advance but had a breakdown and missed the first night. The manager pushed the booking forward a day without even being asked. A number of eateries close by plus a dairy.

Fabulous spot.
Seems largebfor only 3 vehicles as per the sign. The views are amazing. A short walk to the beach, town and next bay along the coast. The view of Taranaki is amazing!

I arrived here tired, hungry and yes, a little crabby but within an hour this quirky site had worked it's magic.
The hosts were super friendly and the views beautiful. Mobile data worked great so no need to pay for wifi. The little shop was well stocked with essentials and the shower was amazing!!! There is nothing a great shower can't put right. And to top it off I saw gloworms for the first time ever. What a show. I went to see them at the bottom dell. Luckily someone was just coming out so gave me instructions. FYI, follow the rope round to the right then use another rope to get down safely onto the creek bed.

Location, Location, Location!
I had a really great stay here. Yes the facilities are a little tired but the beach front location, perfect beach and fabulous swimming more than made up for it. The showers were great hot, free and untimed. (Don't be put off by the mention of cockroaches in an earlier review.) The only thing I missed was a grey water dump area.

I only spent one night here arriving 5pm ish and leaving early so can't comment on the facilities but it's a cute little site, fabulous sunset and dawn views down the coast and over to Taranaki.
The owner though was super helpful when I had problems with my power connection. Truly went above and beyond.

I enjoyed my first ever experience of freedom camping here last weekend...
and it was excellent! Parked up, looking straight out of to the sea. Fabulous views.
I felt safe and secure. The toilets and freshwater were good. The spaces are pretty tight and there were a lot of 'day trippers' using them as regular parking spaces during the day which is a pain when trying to bag a spot but overall I had a great experience and will be back!
