Had two nights here.
Amber was small, a little cramped, but filled with travellers like ourselves rather than families on holiday with lots of kids.
The toilet and shower facilities are excellent, even with flowers and paintings on the walls of the toilets. In our smaller block the showers are unisex, this was the last of many Holiday parks in three weeks in nz, and a happy experience.
I would highly recommend this park.

We did have fun around NZ, but the vans are old, we experienced leaks, breakdowns, sluggish performance of the motor plus things like the electric jug that was faulty.
For the price we could have, in hindsite, gotten a more modern van from Britz for the same price.

We stayed one night after leaving the nearby Top 10 park because of overcrowding.
Fernwood was certainly not overcrowded, the owners were very friendly and helpful.
Only two things let it down for us, one was the toilets and showers, they were old and untidy with spiders and cobwebs for decoration.
I know the owners are working hard to improve this.
The second was the traffic noise, while visually our site was nicely private and spacious, its close proximity to a busy road meant noise all night.
We find nothing worse than a bad nights sleep to ruin the next day of driving.

Wow, our first experience at sea kayaking, our guide was Rowan from Bristol, what a lovely easy going guy, but one who looked after us and made the whole experience the highlight of our NZ holiday.
Conditions on the water were perfect, the boat ride and tramping to follow was well organised.
A totally fantastic experience and well worth every penny spent.
Thank you Rowan, you are worth your weight in gold.

After two previous nights in other parks being bad experiences, it was such a pleasure to find this park.
The grounds are beautiful, flowers, trees and grass providing a lovely atmosphere. The van sites are spacious, toilets and showers new and spotless, and the owners were very friendly and helpful. They even loaned us a couple of bicycles to go into town.
The only downside was the abundance of midgies or sandflies, hardly something the park can fix, and likely a result of global warming, along with every other problem known to man :)
I could not recommend this place more highly, its the best we experienced in the south island.
Thank you Graham, you've noted what we often hear, so thank you, we are so pleased you enjoyed your stay with us! As for the midgies, they do tend to get about just before it rains but never too bad!

January is a bad time to visit if you love peace and quiet.
Facilities are clean, but overcrowding and sardine-like powered sites made my stay less than happy. We planned to spend two nights but cut back to one, staff were helpful, got a refund on the second day. Great fun if you are a young kid.

Fairly quiet, not too many kids running around.
Good sites for campervans, shower block shoddy and old but there are newer ones there. Nice spa, when it worked, and as others have said....rotten location, no place for a holiday, just. A stopping off place to the ferry.

Nice location, better than spending $88 for the Hahei top 10, really nice owner, Anita, lovely lass.
Only downside is that it is a fishing Mecca, boats and tractors moving around all the time. The beach is all stones and not nice to walk on. Limited things to do unless you are a fisherman with a boat.

We spent a week there very recently.
They are the only park in Masterton, and our experience was very positive. They are cheap, $12 each for a powered site. Toilets and showers are new and clean. The owners are truly lovely people and could not have been more helpful. The site is near a lovely river, very quiet.
It would be better if they could close the pathway through that allows non residents access, then I would give them full marks, this was not a disturbance however.
