First place I stayed after collecting my campervan in Auckland.
Nice, big parking lot with plenty of room, right next to a rugby field, where the local club had practice that evening (very exciting for a newly arrived tourist like me :-) ). There was a nice, little walk around the surrounding township, with a fair sized supermarket close by and the toilets were nice and clean. The parking lot was lit up by big lamp posts all night, which might be annoying to some. But for me travelling alone it made it seem very safe. Great free spot, would def. Recommend it for a night.

Beatiful little cosy free Campsite with access to not only toilet and water but also a wonderful little bird reserve with a very nice trail through.
Only downside(s) I can come up with, is that the main road is a bit close by and the toilet is placed a short walk into the forest and perhaps not the cleanest/nicest of long-drop-toilets. If you’re a “Night Pee’er” remember a good flashlight :-D But all in all I really loved it and would totally recommend a nights stay there

Had a great 2 Night stay here, visiting the Waitomo caves and relaxing by the pool.
Staff was super Nice and very helpful. The fascilities were dated but clean and the showers were great. The Campsite is located between the train tracks and an industrial road with quite alot of traffic noise (Big trucks etc). Also one if the kitchens were pretty infected with ants. This pulls My review down to 8, because over all I really enjoyed My stay there and would recommend it

Note: Book on DOC website before arrival - it is not possible to book/pay onsite (NZD $15).
Cosy Campsite in beatiful surroundings near a small creek with a Nice little pool/pond to bathe in. Trail into the bushes start at the camp and it’s close to Wakapapa Village where other trails start and close to TawHai Falls. Toilets are long-Hole-toilets but pretty nice and “clean” with toilet paper. There is water there, but it has to be boiled first if you want to drink it. Gas Station/Supermarket is 5 mins away. I spend two nights here, travelling alone and it felt nice and safe, I really recommend it and would come again.
