Ok campsite, with nice facilities.
We paid 50$ for an unpowered site with 2 adults. In relation to other places we have been, it was a bit pricey. The owners are very nice and you can chat with the birds and emoes

Beautiful spots between the trees.
Although it is a kiwi campsite which meant that you need the kiwis card for the showers and the tap water, the toilets where open and there was a shelter as well

Large campground in the Kauaeranga Valley.
In the middle of the nature and close to hikes. There were some loud groups, but it was high season. Toilets were clean longdrops, cleaned every morning.

Hipapatua / Reid's Farm Recreation Reserve Free Campsite

We mainly stayed at this ground as it is the only freedom camp around Taupo.
The grounds felt quite shabby with some old tentrs and campers standing around. There are portaloos that were in poor condition. There was a lake close by with long drops which we used instead. It got pretty busy at the end of the day.

We enjoyed our stay at Tongariro holiday park.
Stayed for 2 days because we did the crossing. Nice (free) showers, large kitchen and laundry facilities (4$). Good arrangement from the campsite for the shuttle bus. We only bought wifi, which didnt work for us.

Simple parking lot, where you can stay overnight.
The parking lot is central, which made it convenient. Also just a little drive away from the ferry. Toilets were clean. The parking lot was completely full overnight.

Nice place by the lake.
Especially in nice weather it would be a nice spot, but there is also a shelter. Toilets were not so clean.

With a long drop and shelter. It's just one open field so not very cosy.

On of our favorite spots!
You stand directly next to the beach. Toilets where just at the other side of the parking lot and were open during the night. There was a max of campervans that could stay here, but we didnt get send away. But make sure you're on time!
