maybe good for family or people with average fitness as there are no steep or technical sections.
i expected more "scenic" things but some sections where really boring (flat, straight...) for me. rode from ranfurly to omakau and back. as fit mountain biker i was bored by the trail and decided not to stay at clyde over night as planned.

very well prepared tracks, but due to logging some was closed what was not shown at the entrance maps...so i climbed up to some tracks for "nothing".
also the maps (and nice fabric map) was a little bit confusing for newbie’s as there are so many tracks at this "little" spot.

expensive for a not so special camp site and town (also 6km from city center) compared to qeenstown/hanmer etc.
where i payed a lower price at Top10 parks. bathroom floor verry slipery when wet (should have used other flagging). other things Top10 standard.

rode it with mtb in both directions (ohakune to horopito), nice prepared track with some muddy sections.
verry well placed signs and info-boards with interesting things about the road (history - present) and nature. got everything from historic places to native bush, pine, grass, mud, stony and even river crossings (with bridges). liked it verry much.

After some very good travel experience with a VW T4 campervan in 2009 I really wanted a small VW campervan again.
After checking some reviews and quotes i decided for Wilderness. So I travelled 5 weeks with a Dart2 campervan from their fleet. Plenty of space for me and a mountain bike and handling like a normal car. With its powerful and efficient diesel engine (VW 1.9 TDI) driving was easy, also overtaking of trucks and uphill speed was fun. It was well equipped and had a functional design (electrical bed, storage space). I loved also the good sound of the speakers which makes the cruises thru the stunning landscape more emotional with my favourite music. I would choose Wilderness again also for their nice service and good value for money.
100% recommendation!

rode it in november 2011 from camp bay to picton in one day (68km) with a fully.
i was a little bit irritated by the brochures which said that for both track-sections in sum 8h of cycling are recommended. as i´m a very fit rider i finished this section to anakiwa in 4:45h in dry conditions with short stops. some few steep sections must be walked but 98% was ridable. but be careful at each corner to avoid collision with walkers or other cyclists. the track it self was easy (for my skill level) and is well prepared, but might become difficult in some sections when wet. also at peak walking season it could become disappointing to pass the hikers. the water taxi transport was good, but they dropped me of last (10:30am) at camp bay.
