3.5/5
Quiet campground, close to a beautiful whitesand beach, no phone signal at all with any carrier.
Tap water and freezer available, no showers. 10$ pp.
The black jack road is quite steep, winding, narrow and sometimes gravel, be careful if you have a big campervan.

5.0/5
Cheap, clean and peaceful campsite, white toilets, water, sinks and a cooking shelter (no power/showers).
On the road between National Park and Whakapapa village.
Be careful the place is very popular. We arrived at 6PM on a Monday and it was full, we had to park at the tent parking lot.
4$ pp.

Nice campsite, I paid 15$ pp.
Showers are 1$ for 6 minutes. There is a kitchen with fridges, sinks and hot plates. The lounge has a TV and a free charging station (very useful).
Facilities are clean and not too old. There is also a free pool and a recreation area for kids.
The owners are also very friendly. About 20 mn from town center by foot. Will come back :)

4.0/5
Small campsite with not much privacy, next to a street, nothing to separate the parking spots.
But it's probably the cheapest in the area (12$pp non powered), showers are hot and free, there is a washing-machine/dryer and a kitchen with microwave, oven, hot plates, kettle and fridge/freezer. Not far from the waitomo caves.
The ranger was very friendly :)
If you want to see a kiwi you'll need to pay 18$ to get to the kiwi house...
South Island ▷ West Coast ▷ Okarito ▷
4.5/5
Quiet campsite near the lagoon and the beach.
Beautiful sunset, but the place can be quite windy and cold (even in summer). 10$ pp, free for kids, showers are 1$ for 5-6 minutes.
Facilities are clean, there is a fridge/freezer and a cooking shelter with a sink (no hot-plates/oven). No charging station but there is a shavers socket in the toilets (well-hidden).
The road to okarito is a bit rolling and winding but not too steep. it takes about 10-20 min from the highway.

4.5/5
Basic parking, only toilets, water and picnic tables.
But it's completely free and you can park there even if you're not self-contained.
5 min from Picton, easy to find. A bit noisy (very close to the road).

One of the best campsite I've ever seen!
The facilities are brand new and super clean. The showers are hot and the kitchen is big. Only 10$ pp, really worth it for the view and the facilities.
Many tracks around for hiking and a cold but beautiful stream nearby. Will come back :)

Around 2km gravel road off the main road, campsite is easy to find (just look at the signs).
Basic campsite, but free :)
A few vans every night in summer season. it is a good stop if you want to rest for the night.

FREE campsite, 5 min from Taupo town center.
Quiet and next to the river, not far from the huka falls. The place is quite busy but there's lots of space to park your van or set up your tent. Toilets and rubbish bins only.
Hot showers are available in the town center, at the superloo, next to the i-site (2$ for 4 min).

Small campsite but quite crowded after 7PM.
The road from north is gravel for 10km.
Free hot showers, nice kitchen with gas cookers, fridge/freezer, boiler and charging station.
We spotted a kiwi next to the campsite around 10pm. Just bring a flashlight and be quiet (and patient). You can also spot big eels, wetas and possums.
10$ pp.
tip: take your shower in the evening (or be first in the morning) if you want hot water.

Nice campsite, lots of room and a great view on the beach, you can actually see dolphins right from the campiste in your van!
I paid 16$ for a van and 2 adults (unpowered site) for 1 night. Hot showers are 2$ for 5/6 minutes. There is a little kitchen with a boiler, a microwave and 2 hot plates (free). There is also a little shop where you can buy a coffee and some food.
Facilities are pretty old but they are good enough and the view is amazing.
Dolphins watch/swim is free but bring a wetsuit, the water is freezing, even in summer. You can also watch yellow-eyed penguins for free in the same area.
Sweet as!

Excellent campsite!
Only 10$ pp, free hot showers, kitchen with hot plates, oven, fridge and a charging station. There is also a bbq and a great playground for kids. No washing-machine/microwave.
Facilities are a bit old but they are very well-maintained and very clean.
The beach is 1 min from the campsite and is fantastic. it is a big blacksand beach with impressive natural caves.
Note: fees must be paid at the waverley library (in the waverley village, not at the campground). Facilities are locked by a pin code that you will get after you've paid at the library.

THE BEST campervan park in NZ!
I paid 35$ for a van and 2 adults (unpowered site). The facilities are as new, showers are free and huge, the 2 spas are open 4pm to 9pm and are very hot. The wifi is completely free and quite fast, easy to connect. The kitchen/lounge has a charging station to power up your laptops, there is also a fridge/freezer, hot plates, sinks and a big screen with SKY. Laundry is 2$.
Staff was very friendly and helpful. 20min from town centre by foot. Love it :)
Boule_de_gomme your so lovely thanks for your great review! We are glad our price point for unpowered sites has hit the spot!

$6 pp.
Toilets ok. Water must be filtered/boiled. Nice huge campground on the grass, close to bay with black swans, black ducks and a little stream. Very quiet.
Be careful if you're going down towards Blenheim, the roads after the campsite are mostly gravel roads on steep hills (but the view is really worth it!).

Nice free space on the grass to park your van.
Great view on the sea and the sound of the tide all the time. Wooden lunch tables available. Free and clean toilets on the other side of the road. Friendly local people. Seals colony 5km away on a gravel road. :)
