Met the ranger when we arrived.
I liked this place, was neat, had toilet’s, but the shower was bizarre. Had to to put the coin it outside then run around to get in for your 2 mins. But that gave it some character. Secure enough and far enough away from the road.

Half way in our trip now, and this is the cleanest and nicest park we stayed in.
You can also walk to the caves from here, so worth a stay.

Decent size for motor homes.
Area split into two, one side for self contained vehicles only, the other appears to be no overnight stay, but there is a sign explaining this. No water, but has three drop toilets here, which are clean enough. Was great for us, as we would have been arriving in New Plymouth late, so this helped us out. Black sand, can walk out to the ocean in low tide, place is nice

Not sure why it has so many high reviews.
It has beach access sure, but other than that, it is a very average park. It is not bad, but it is not great either, just your average park. I did question the site they put me, as I have a very large motor home, and now I will have to reverse it out and thread the needle of cars parked from all the tents in the same row. Those were empty when I arrived, so they could have had better foresight and put us there.
Kia ora Todd. Thank you for your feedback, and we're sorry to hear that some aspects of your stay didn't meet your expectations. With bookings for different lengths of times, groups etc. site allocation is not always as simple as it first seems; especially on those days where every site in the park is booked, with many booked a year in advance. That said, I'm sorry to hear that the site we allocated didn't work so well for your camper. Our reception team do always try to find site allocations that work for people's needs, so if you're staying again in future do feel free to make a note in your bookings and/or give us a call in advance to discuss what might work for you. Worth the 10min walk, nice waterfall.
Viewing platform was under repair ( or just blocked off, not much work done ) while we were there. Would be nice to have a path to the bottom though
