Basically a car parc near memorial and historic elevator.
Great view. No level surface to be found. Public toilet as clean as can be expected from public toilet. Attracts a lot of young people by car after dark for some reason, on a mondaynight. Left.

Former paddock now in use as surplus parking lot for Anatoki Salmon.
Nice soft grass. Quiet. No amenities. Sign says they'd welcome donation for local charity. Be very aware for sandflies! Me foreigner thought it was just regular flies...

Liked it a lot.
Not brand new but clean and good. Friendly helpful owner. Peninsula much more beautiful than imagined. Portobello, indeed.

Keep going on narrow gravel road.
Spots will pop up on the left. Saw no one for 24 hrs! After that you'll be ready to move on

Perfect for a free site.
Costs NZD 8 though. Nevertheless pretty busy come dusk.
Swallow nesting in toilets; bonus. Do stroll around lake: saw owl and hedgehog.

Well organized campsite.
Amenities accessible with code. Under new management? (= Tumu Toka Curioscape) Expensive but worth it for biological and geological attractions.

Didn't check amenities here at end of world but would go again just for beautiful surroundings.
Bring your own supplies.

Gore Bay and its campground feels like 1976.
To me that's a good thing. Go there!
