Good free camping spot.
Stayed one night in a campervan and it was great! Small grassy camping area at the end of a rural street. Road leads to the beach but you can’t access it as there’s water blocking the way. One picnic table. One long drop toilet near by that does the job. There’s a house not too far but it was still very quiet and peaceful. You can hear the sound of the waves. Would definitely go back 👌🏻

Good spot along the coast!
Very friendly owners 🤙🏼 clean facilities, kitchen, toilets and showers ($2) there weren’t too many people when we stayed so had an intimate and quiet spot. Would definitely go back!

Location is ok.
Only a few spots available. A few minutes walk from the toilets, which are closed right now (end of September) due to renovations.

Great spot, right next to the beach and the start of the trek.
Castlepoint is gorgeous!
Limited spaces to park overnight.
Clean toilets really close by.

Great freecamp spot.
By the ocean. Toilets are clean and have a motion detector light. It was very quiet at night. Plenty of space.

Great free spot!
Beautiful scenery. Quiet.
Many spaces in the camper authorized spots were taken by campers that seem to be there permanently. Arrive early if you can

Good spot, but a bit over priced for the facilities available.
Hot showers, kitchen is functional. You can hear the kiwis at night :)

The place is not bad.
By the water with beautiful sunsets. Very close to Paihia. Secure. Bathroom has a locked door and the site has a closed gate (locked at 7pm). But it can be noisy (people screaming, dogs barking, a rooster singing). The facilities are basics. The light in the bathroom (motion detector) goes out after a few minutes. So you will shower in the dark if it’s not daytime.

Amazing secluded camping spot.
Super quiet in the winter. Gorgeous view, especially on a sunny day. There’s no reception/network at the camp, but if you hike up the hill on the left (beginning of trek to Cape Reinga), you get reception. Plus the view of the beach and ocean is amazing from up there! Cold showers only. Very close to Cape Reinga. 5 minute drive or you can hike there (3 hours).
