Stunning views and a really nice bay to swim in.
This bay is a lot quieter than the larger Urupukapuka bay campsite, which was full of jetskis when we visited during the school holidays, however is probably a 20 min walk with a couple of hills from Otehei Bay where the ferry comes in.
The site is well maintained and there is a very refreshing cold shower to get clean after the saltwater. Lots of shade around the edge of the campground when needed.
Needs booking on DOC website.

The spots at Ruakaka beach had been filled up (only really room for the 4 motor homes but might fit a couple more smaller vans) however the town had also designated an area of the River Side Reserve (on
the way to the beach) as a SCC overnight spot as well. No toilets or facilities there but the beach is easy walking distance and the reserve is in a great location to just wake up and drive to the beach in the morning. Very safe. Not very private.

Beautiful campground surrounded by stunning coastal walk.
Lovely, flat, well maintained grass field with lots of bushes for shade and gravel spots for cars and when wet.
Campground has washing up facilities, toilets and drinking water, and a short walk to the park entrance gives more toilets, sinks and a couple of hot showers.
It's also a little visitor farm with little paddocks and you are basically shut in the park when the gates close - 9pm this summer, but earlier during winter.
Booking is online for Auckland Council so a bit fiddly but well worth it. 20 mijs drive from Auckland CBD and only a few mins to the airport.

Cute little spot with nice views around inland Northland.
Welcoming hosts, really nice chill out room with a kettle. Incredibly clean, smart shower and toilets. Lovely little stopover when travelling through Northland. $14 a night. The owners said they're mainly just taking bookings over the phone now so just call to let them know before you arrive.
