Lake Rotoiti is definitely a beautiful place.However it felt like a police state run by D.O.C.

We own a fully self contained motor home and enjoy out of the way places where we can legally freedom camp and obviously we leave nothing behind except tyre tracks.DOC has covered Rotoiti in ugly polluting signs everywhere forbidding any form of freedom camping with the threat of a large fine if you transgress.We are left with the DOC owned campground at a cost of $46.00 per night to park on their gravel.As well the DOC noticeboard has various warnings regards fines if you use a drone in their park(why) and charges for using the multitude of taxpayer funded huts in what is a taxpayer funded park.Thankfully there is a POP in Rotoiti at $10.00 per night per vehicle.Last comment there are more rabbits in Rotoiti than people and fast increasing.Is this not DOC,s job to control them.
