Clifftop parking with views to Mt Taranaki on the edge of the lovely small town of Opunake.
On a clear calm day this spot is truly magical.
Both sunrise and sunset are spectacular.
Space says three campers only, and not sure how strictly this is enforced, but above Middleton Bay at the exit of Wharf Road, and on Middleton Bay (dog exercise area) near the Surf Club there are extra spots - 3 per site.
No toilet nearby to Wharf Rd, so must have one on board, nearest is Middleton Bay.
The Loop Walk in both directions is fab, either on foot or by bike. Also lovely for dog walking.
OPUNAKE has great cafes, a monthly Sunday Market at the Town Hall and lovely art and gift shops.

So much space!
Toilets and showers very well maintained. Great quiet winter stop over with very few people, and North end only is open over winter months. Walking along the river, and through the bush is lovely. Imagine this is super popular in summer. River current dangerously strong in the wet months. History of the area is very interesting. Perfect stop over if you're doing the Manawatu Scenic Route loop through the Rangitikei and Manawatu.
