Location: gorgeous.
Beautiful calm lake surrounded by beautiful mountains and bushes filled with singing birds. Eels in the lake are fun to feed. Only issue was the huge number of sand flies. The camping areas are all individual spaces surrounded by trees, so a good deal of privacy.
Facilities: clean toilets. Didn't use the showers (didn't need to), so am unsure what they were like. Indoor food prep / clean up area (simple counters, sinks, and picnic table), was clean and tidy, with a noticeboard with up to date printed information on the weather forecast for the next few days and other notices.
Cost: I think we paid $34 for two people. Book online through the Dept of Conservation. Volunteer staff do check your number plate to ensure you've paid.

Tidy nice grounds.
Clean and tidy bathrooms, toilets, kitchen and dining area. Also a sheltered outdoor BBQ and dining area. Showers are timed for six minutes but are free. Laundry facilities are good ($4 per load to wash, and increments of $1 for drying depending on how long you want to dry). The hot pool resort on site is nice - you still have to pay entry but it's $11 per adult instead of $22, and you can use the private hot pools. The walk downhill and into town along Taupo lake is nice and takes about half an hour (we Ubered back up). The only downside is the cost - we paid $52 for two people for a powered site, however we felt it was worth it for a good rest and recharge/shower/do laundry stop
