Facilities were clean and good quality with great free showers.
The wifi was so slow to load that we gave up - effectively there is no wifi. The host wasn't overly welcoming.
Don't expect a holiday park atmosphere as everyone around us was long-term permanent and we got the feeling we were imposing on their patch. This would put us off staying here again.

This is a fantastic basic campsite with flushing loos and a kitchen area plus shelter for BYO BBQ.
All were cleaned daily by friendly DOC staff. We had a flat site with trees surrounding that gave some privacy and shelter from the wind. There is no potable water so come prepared. Payment options include online or cash onsite at the registration booth.
Don't come thinking you can buy supplies as it's not currently open and the owner indicated she isn't planning on reopening it in the immediate future. However, you can by fuel using card facility.
Highly recommend a visit to the lost gypsy and coffee cart which are a short walk away as well as the estuary and beach/forest walks.

Beautiful and peaceful setting among the trees with plenty of space and away from any road noise.
Facilities were clean and fine for us as there were only 3 other guests in the camp. If the camp was full kitchen and ablutions would probably not be sufficient. Owners were very warm and welcoming hosts. Great value for money.

We paid $30 for the only power site which would have been ok except all the facilities (kitchen and ablutions) needed a good clean.
There was only cold water in the kitchen and no means to heat water. If staying you need to bring everything for cooking etc. Host was not particularly helpful and I wonder if tough times since COVID have had an effect. The setting was nice and the $2 coin operated showers hot with good water pressure.
If I had realised I would have used the freedom camp at Owaka and paid $5 for a shower next door.

We had a great experience here.
The hosts were very helpful and most accommodating. We accidently left an item behind, they searched for it and then posted it to us - fantastic. Park and facilities are clean and well appointed with a very relaxed atmosphere. Just a 2 minute walk to the town centre. Hhighly recommend a stay here.
Thank you for your lovely comments. We are always happy to return, left items back to their owners and pleased that you enjoyed your stay and the tranquillity of our park setting, situated in the centre of town.
Regards

We paid $40 for a powered site for 2 and this is on par with other places we stayed and fair for the facilities provided which were clean and fairly new.
Showers were $1 for power sites and $2 for non power sites. There was a southerly storm pounding through but the sites were sheltered by large flax bushes which also gave an element of privacy. Enjoyed the walk around the cliff top, Porpoise and Curio Bays. Hosts were helpful even though we hadn't booked.

From our initial inquiry through to when we returned the motorhome we found the McRent team to be totally, professional, accommodating and helpful.
The motorhome was modern, comfortable and well equipped with everything we needed for a great holiday experience.
We would be more than happy to hire from McRent in the future and to recommend them to anyone else.

Carpark opposite the port (not to be confused with the grass area in the middle of the loop road).
Tidy area with recycle and rubbish bins, drinking water supply, dump station and clean toilets. There were about 15 vehicles when we stayed and there was plenty of room. Not really suitable for bigger RVs (we saw these parked in the grass area in middle of loop road - not sure if that was legit as signs indicated it wasn't).
Be prepared for noise from port activity from about 7am.
Just a very short walk to Caroline Bay beach and penguin viewing from the breakwater rocks at night (need to wait until well after dark before they start surfing in and best when seas are calm).
Would be happy to stay here again.

Very peaceful setting among trees and next to a stream.
Plenty of facilities that are very clean. Bus stop is just 100m down the road ($3 to town) or an easy 5 minute drive to city centre. Spent 2 nights here on our way south. Loved it so much we spent another 2 nights on our way north.
Recommend the bush walk from the back of the camp up to NZ's oldest working water reservoir.

Amazing hosts.
They were so accommodating. We arrived early in the day with no booking. They opened the office just for us and gave us a perfect powered site with beach view. Everything in the camp is immaculately clean with all you need for a perfect holiday. We so enjoyed our stay here and would love to return.

We only used the dump station facilities - they were great.
The overnight area looks much better than the photos show with a lovely rural outlook. It's a great location close to the i-site and shops. Showers are available next door for $5. Wished we had stayed here.

Check-in was easy and the owner was welcoming and generous sharing his knowledge about local activities.
Setting is rural and very picturesque with many mature trees but with plenty of open spaces and sites on flat ground.
Facilities were very clean and well presented. However, they would be insufficient if there were large numbers in the camp - no problem for us as there were only a few guests when we stayed.
Location is close to MTB trails, Hampden and Moeraki beaches. Would be happy to stay here again.
