Stayed in the cabins and for camping.
Beautiful location right on the beach and river estuary. Good choice of cabins or sites around the park. There's a playground for the children. Good sized and clean cooking area and outside, undercover eating space. Games room and seperate TV room are great options for wet evenings. Small store open 9 am until 5pm. Hot Showers 50c, you can get change from the store. Friendly staff. About a 30 minute drive from Wellsford.

Beautiful place to stay.
I was in a tent and enjoyed the lovely surroundings in the park. Self check in was easy to do and the receipt prints out the code to get you through the gate barrier. I always sleep well, so I didn't get disturb by noise but it was a Sunday evening so it may have been a quieter night. It is easy to get to the high street and pick up some supplies from the supermarket, which was open until 9pm.

Craw campground is a small campsite with a sink, worktop space, a long drop toilet and some wooden camp tables.
It was lovely to see the cleaner arrive to give the toilet a caring for and a clean.
There is a good lookout spot at the back of the camp, head to the sink area corner and follow the trail.
From the main road junction to the camp grounds, it takes around 15 mins to travel over the gravel road; I think a ute would be able to travel a lot quicker over the road. There are some potholes along the way, just take your time and pull in when you can do others can pass.
A clear night at Craw is a bonus to enjoy the very dark night sky.
Staying for 1 night is $9 per adult person (2023), which I think is the minimum price charged for the various Auckland Council campgrounds. You can get some mobile phone signal there but possibly not for all the networks.
I do agree that trying to fit 40 people on this site would make it feel a little squashed.

Stayed here just after the school holidays one Friday night in Feb.
It was such a peaceful site with around 10 other camper vans/ tents; there’s lots of room on this long field next to the river. The road over from SH5, along Waitata Road, was a pleasant drive on a sealed road, with the campsite being around 8km from SH5. Pitched the tent near the river and woke up to the gentle bubbling sounds of the water flowing past. Tent was lovely and cool in the morning due to the shade from the hills keeping the early morning sun off the tent. Long drop toilets, bring your own toilet paper. It’s great to have access to free campsites like this one. There is a donation tube near the information notice board.
