We stayed at the camp over Waitangi Weekend, staying an extra day.
While we had a lovely time at the camp meeting new people, we would not stay at this camp again. We checked in on the Thursday before the long weekend, they did not have our booking (we had rung previously) and stayed in the Winger Field. It was private with about 7 or so caravans, and we had a nice time. Everyone checked out Waitangi Monday except our 2 vans. Suddenly the toilet and shower block that serviced this field were locked without any discussion with us. One of our men visited the office, and was told us we must now use the other block, which was about 300 meters away. He is 77 and through an injury, walking was very hard work. The ladies went back and said we were unhappy about this, we were rudely told the block was open longer than normal and normally shut by this date. This was not our problem, they took our money, we had access to this block and they should be left open for use until they no longer took bookings for this area. We asked nicely. Then the young lady went nasty and said we were rude! Excuse me, we were anything but rude. She stomped out, got on her bike, and drove it with anger to the toilet block. I said we only needed one side opened, she didn’t have the good grace to even apologise for her behaviour. When we went into the block, it was filthy (not cleaned from the day before), so what was the issue? It was not like it was cleaned, and closed for the season. However, we paid for the right to access the amenities, this was rudely denied. This is the hospitality industry and her behaviour was anything but. We were disgusted. People make the business, irrespective of the surroundings. Interestingly, we visited Island View Holiday Park to check their grounds, the place was totally packed. In comparison, this place was not. Doesn’t that say something? In 40 years of camping, we have never struck such nastiness and rudeness.
