We stayed here because of its location close to McLean falls and Cathedral Caves.
Out of the 4 campgrounds we’ve stayed at so far it is my least favourite. The strange lights going off when your on the loo is not great. The kitchen was adequate but only 1 sink. The lounge had a TV but we couldn’t get it to work so gave up after 10 minutes. Unfortunately the weather was very cold, windy and rainy and the camp surface is a muddy shell so coming in and out of our camper became very muddy and made a big mess of our step and shoes. Also there was no where obvious for the kids to play. It was raining anyway and maybe if it was sunny we could have explored more and found somewhere. It was OK but very expensive compared to other better campgrounds around the South Island. For family of 5 with a powered site it was $25.00 more expensive than in Invercargill.

The positives....Lovely surroundings and location right next to beautiful gardens and children’s playground.
Very nice 20 min walk to town. Friendly helpful staff. Free DVD loans. Mini golf was great, tricky and each hole has a local theme. Lovely hot showers. Kitchen clean and adequate. Free BBQs. Kangaroo jump and tramp were great. Clean bathrooms that seemed a bit warmer and more modern than others we’ve come across. One negative was the trains in the night but fine once you know what they are. We stayed an extra night.

Good location, possible to walk to town but not close.
Toilets and showers clean but had a school camp feel. 7.5 minute hot water limit was plenty. Kitchen dining and lounge area was a nice set up but I have to agree with the last review that it was a bit smelly. Friendly people and very friendly white cat. Not especially child friendly as no playground and not much space to play.

Great location 5 minutes to edge of town and gondola and supermarket right next door, interesting and quirky artwork.
We loved the steampunk BBQ area. Nice clean bathrooms. We tried out two kitchens in the 3 nights we stayed the one in the main area has no oven and only 2 sinks but the other one was bigger. Because of Covid the campground was only half full and very comfortable but I imagine when it’s full it’s a bit squished as sites are very close together. Just at present only every second space is occupied. There is no playground but kids borrowed a ball from reception and played in an area by the back kitchen that would normally have 3 campers parked up. Lots of trees and buildings are weirdly interesting.

Good location by the beach.
It was cold and very windy but our powered site was between hedges which helped. Good well stocked kitchen with everything you need. In fact there were 2 large clean kitchen dining areas. Kids enjoyed the playground and fuse ball in the lounge. They’ve made a good effort to brighten up the concrete block and other bland buildings with cheery murals and local details.
Because it was so cold I found the bathroom by us a bit cold and dated like a big concrete block. Water was hot though.

Located a bit out of town and some of the outside areas like lawns and gardens could use a tidy up but otherwise nice.
We were close to the smaller kitchen and toilet block which were clean with a modern feel. Toilet/shower was very nice there was a heater and faceclothes and flowers in the room. I much prefer a few small toilet blocks to one huge long row of cubicles. Giant chess was cool we played a few games, lots of room for kids to run around and a playground so they were happy. Pet friendly someone even brought their horse, they had a paddock out the back.
