As second visit here to this kiwi iconic camp.
Early December and it is quiet and 1/4 full. Later in the month and over summer it could be vbusy. The camp office and manager are fantastic along with the amazing sunsets. The facilities are older but clean and tidy. Dog friendly at this time. Can't wait to come back

An unexpected gem.
Close to Hannah's Bay Reserve on the eastern side of Lake Taupo, flat biking, flat camp sites, so clean, free showers, indoor heated pool with retractable roof and the cheapest laundry charges we have seen at any North Island Motor Camp at $3 for a load of washing. Nice and quiet. We will be back.

If you are self contained, continue down Lake Rd.
to the lake edge and follow gravel road to the right. About 500 mts along there is a turn to the left which will take you to a wonderful camp area called 'dog island'.
No amenities but flat grass sheltered by trees and right on lakes edge. There are just a few places where you can access the water as the area is surrounded by dense foliage.
A really good spot, we will be back.

Great place to park overnight.
The bird life is stunning, the toilets clean and feels safe being 500m from SH2. Easy to find, mowed grass area, picnic tables. Bring your water.

Not cheap at $25 per adult for a powered site but cleanliness of facilities was excellent, great location a walking distance to town and the immediate wine trails.
No need for a sober driver. Community free pool was a godsend at the end of a hot day. Showers at camp are free. Can you believe that. Great place to explore Lake Ferry, Cape Palliser Lighthouse and Greytown, Featherston and Carterton. If intending to walk up the 280 vertical steps to the lighthouse, wear good shoes, wear a hat and take some water in a back pack. You need both hands on the rail coming down if you are a little unsteady.

It's the Only motor camp in Waimarama - what a magnificent beach.
If u are self contained and don't require power then the open beach front paddock with a short walk to the beautiful beach is ideal.
The amenities are minimal for the camp size, but are clean
$22 / head per night is on the high-level for what the camp provides.
Water at camp but not on paddock.
