Beautiful place here.
Quite scenic. Definitely worth driving down past the car-park to the pond although only a few level sites for campervans. Heaps of birds, rabbits, flax in bloom. We didn't go on the walk as it was raining while we were there and it looked quite slippery. Only one other campervan there so very peaceful. A couple of picnic tables. No toilets.

Great little spot.
Unfortunately it was bucketing down and there was flash flooding while we there. We walked to the river the following morning and the water level was quite high and lots of damage to the banks. Half of this campsite was cordoned off for Maori groups? Didn't understand why. Only one campervan there. Three long drops. Taps outside plus a covered sink for washing dishes. Lots of mosquitoes so wear repellent if you're a magnet like I am! Lovely to spy on rabbits hopping around the next morning. Very peaceful there 😀

Had a pleasant one night stay here in our campervan.
Quite off the beaten track so no road noise. Lots of level sites for parking on and a small turnaround bay at the end. Can only pay online now on the DOC website. 2 flushing toilets. Bring a head torch with you as quite dark inside due to overgrown bushes around them. Taps outside but water isn't drinkable without boiling it first. The birdsong is truly amazing here! Went on the Orari Gorge walk, labelled as easy but it was extremely muddy (and it's summertime) and quite slippery in places.

After the hustle and bustle of Queenstown, my husband and I decided to spend New Year's Eve here and we're so glad we did as it's a beautiful spot.
We were the only ones there, probably because it's a bit of a trek down a gravel road to get there and not suitable for really large campervans as the road gets quite narrow and there are overhanging branches to contend with. The scenery is stunning though and we only had birds and sheep as neighbours! We decided to go for a dip in the lake as it was a hot evening when we arrived but the water was glacial! Definitely cooled us down. Two longdrops near the paystation. $8/person. Lots of sandflies there in the evening so wear repellent if you're a magnet for them like I am!
