Well organized campsite beside the river.
Decent hot showers and kitchen area with gas cookers (no pots/utensils etc so BYO). Washer and dryer $4. There is a cafe onsite too if you didn't want to make food (we didn't try it out though). Can drink the water at the campsite. The water from the kitchen tasted good but the water from the outside taps tasted quite weird so drink from the inside taps. Scenic spots by the river, would come again. Would also recommend the nearby Emerald pools walk.

We had the Doc camping pass so price wasn't an issue, but agree with other reviews that maybe $10 rather than $15 would be a more fair price.
It's a nice site but not many amenities, just a long drop. We stayed in winter so it was very very cold but other than that a grand place to stay for exploring the walks in National Park

Excellent, convenient place to stay close to Wellington city centre.
Can stay for up to 4 nights in a Month. Plenty of spaces available but it is a popular spot. Toilets are very clean. Can walk 3 mins to the number 2 bus stop which will take you into Cuba street. Surprisingly quiet given that it is near a busy road. Would definitely stay again.

We planned to stay here but were also told about french pass so ended up driving onto there instead.
This one is very scenic but basic facilities (toilet only). The water was literally full of jellyfish so probably not a good place to swim.

This place would have got 10/10 apart from the cheek of the wekas (one literally hopped into our van and stols some cheese and ran off, another actually chased me) and sandflies were a bit annoying too
(but bearable with repellent). Very scenic campsite, water is drinkable, flush toilets and cold showers (nice and clean), grassy spots to park (we had a whole field to ourselves in May), office sells basic supplies too.

Beautiful place to stay right on the beach.
Flush toilet was clean. Says only 3 vans but there were about 6 there and no issues. Plenty of space. There is a bar and restaurant there too if you wanted a meal.

Nice campsite by the beach (quite a Stony beach).
It's now $8pp per night (which we thought was still reasonable for what you get). Long drop toilets, no showers, grassy spot to park on. Has drinking water. Book exchange there also. Lady running it was very friendly.

The must stay place in Marahau.
Right at the start of the AT great walk. We stayed here two nights before we did the walk. $28 for 2 people for a site per night so great value at $14 pp. Really good free hot showers. Laundry is $4 was and $4 dry. You can safely park your car there for $5 per day while you are doing the walk. The reception sells organic meat and eggs form their farm, as well as beer, local wine and other essential foods. The staff were very friendly. The common area is well stocked with pots pans and utensils and has oven, gas stoves, microwave, lots of fridges etc. This was my second time staying here as so good. The first time we stayed in a cabin which was also lovely.

Beautiful scenery, really nice place to stay, we stayed in winter so was very peaceful.
There is flush toilets and cold shower which were quite clean. There is water but must be boiled for drinking. Saw lots of stingrays on the beach. There is a little shop in the village. The drive out there is very scenic but also very windy, steep and lots of slips, not great for people with vertigo or large campers!

Great value for money.
Great facilities - flushing toilets, showers, outdoor pizza oven, cooking shelters, gas cooking facilities. 10$ a head for non powered site in April 2021

Lovely campsite by the lake.
Was quite busy when we visited (New Years). First come first serve (no bookings). Ranger comes around in the evening around 7pm ish to check you in and collect fees. Long drop toilets. No showers but there is cold showers 2 min drive down the road at the Boyes beach site (campervan only site). Very peaceful except for the young guy doing burnouts at 1am in his car!
