Great place for a night, quiet throughout the night and away from the through road.
4 vans here last night. View of horses and sheep in the paddock across the valley makes it quite picturesque.
Lovely lady at the isite gave us heaps of info regarding walks around etc. It seems the freedom camping site is in a trial period and will only continue if people respect the surrounding houses with noise etc. Huge bin for rubbish and a dumpstation right there with drinking water- great place for free in the Catlins. Thank you to the local
Council.

Stayed here last night on a Friday, 5 vans in the spot.
Some interesting people descending on this spot at 12am, 4 men got out of a car that parked next to us and started shouting in the road for at least 30 mins (or was scary) Fell back to sleep and then about 3am a man walked around with a whistle telling people to wake up whilst blowing his whistle, if you want to feel safe and have a decent nights sleep I do not recommend sleeping here , it wasn’t a nice experience for us

Stayed for 3 nights just after Xmas, it’s a huge place and easily had 100 vans/motor home/caravans scattered around the lakeside, mostly relatively flat spots.
It rained all night our last night and didn’t get bogged in. Toilets were clean and had paper. Huge water park inflatables there over the summer which was fun to watch and the day cars leave about 6pm when it closes and more lakefront spots open up. Really appreciated this site from the council with it being a guarantee spot regardless what time we arrived due to it’s sheer size!

Free parking in the city, walking distance to the Isite which have clean hot showers for $2 and last 15 minutes.
It’s free to park here all day for campervans the signage only applies to cars- camper vans are exempt from this charge of paid parking. Thanks Palmy council!

Stayed here twice on my travels and both have been quiet nights.
Free hot pools next to the freedom camping spot which was great, there is free power for those who need it. About 5 vans/motor homes there both times I have stayed. Handy dump station right there by where you park.
