Was a nice location just far enough away from the chaos of Auckland.
A nice little accessible beach from the campgrounds. It was tidy and we could park on the concrete off the soggy grass. Kitchen and bathroom were basic for a Top 10 campground.

Pretty average campsite.
Facilities were outdated and small for the amount of campsites available. Could do with a bit of love. Drinking water was questionable.

Really nice well kept Campground.
Nice friendly owners and an awesome camp dog named Snappa! The only thing lacking was dishwashing stuff in the kitchens but that could be because it was low season and very few guests. Would definitely stay again

One of the nicest campgrounds we stayed at in Northland.
Immaculately clean. Nice landscaped gardens and a really nice lounge to relax in in the evenings.

Great location right on the beach.
Nice star gazing and fresh smelling long drops

One of the most beautiful campsites I've stayed at.
Amazing gardens, glow worms and the chance to spot a kiwi down the road. They even let us borrow a high power red torch to spot the kiwis. Can not recommend enough!

Interesting place to say the least.
Given its history in Maori legend we found it a bit eery. Had a strange experience on our second night with a local who had been fishing after dark approached us saying he had a flat tire and if we had seen anyone near his car. Given it was only us and one other campervan it was a bit unsettling. He then proceeded to sit there for almost an hour flashing his light in all directions before slowly driving off. Probably wouldn't stay again

Nice little location right on the beach.
Facilities a bit dated. Owner was nice and friendly. There's some nicer beaches in the area so worth exploring around a couple of the other bays

All the things you need in a top 10.
Wifi hot showers and a nice kitchen. Weather was average for us but that's out of our control. Could imagine it's nice in summer. Friendly staff.

Amazing place!
Such a cool property to go exploring on. Love how they have added all the little funny things to find along the walk. Super nice star gazing at night to top it off. Facilities are basic but clean with a flushing toilet. The Scottish owner was super friendly giving us a bowl full of eggs. Highly recommended for a night or 2

Nice location.
The little forest walk was nice. Went back at night to find some kiwis. Didn't spot any but heard a few. Toilets were nasty though. Hold your breath!

Beautiful spot right on its very own little private beach.
Had the place to ourselves. Great hot showers and good WiFi. Would stay again

Really liked this place and stayed twice.
Had a nice spot right by the river. It was very chilled when I stayed but imagine it would get busy in summer. Only annoyance was the paid showers. First one I tried chewed up my coin so had to use the other one. 4 minutes is a bit short also. Unsure if you can put 2 coins in for 8 minutes. Otherwise great place

Not overly impressed with the place especially the annoying showers.
Was a bit of a walk to bathroom on the night. Weird lay out

Immaculately clean, good WiFi and free hot showers. A well equipped kitchen too and nice chill out lounge area.

Although the facilities were a bit worn this was still a nice little spot to stay.
The kitchen had everything you needed as well as a ping pong table. The animals added an interesting element to the place but the one thing that really made the stay was the hot pools for use 24/7 perfect for the wet weather we had while there
3.0/5
Nice spot hidden away.
Some obviously really loved it as they had built a mini Fort on the back side of the car park where camping is not permitted. It was an interesting trio of 3 men in 2 small cars and a 3 legged dog. They slept all day with car doors open and arose at night for whatever hobbies they had. Even asking for jumper leads later in the evening. Toilet block was meh.

Pretty good place overall.
Great location but was a bit boggy on a lot of places so muddy trips to bathrooms in the night. Shower block was super clean but kitchen could have done with a freezer. Solid 7.5. Would stay again

Can't understand how this place has such good ratings.
Had high hopes for it after a couple of nights freedom camping, was let down. From the list of rules at the gate and everywhere else we felt like we were at a school camp. Old facilities and no nice place to chill out inside. There was a coffee shop connected but that hadn't t opened by the time we left at 9.

Place has had a massive revamp under the new owners.
Really top notch sparkling facilities. Hot pool was beautiful although could have been a tiny bit warmer. Games room to keep everyone entertained. Would stay again next time I'm back

They all bugger before dark though. Toilet was average but cleaned first thing in morning.

Average place that you pay for the location.
Bit wet underfoot and had to navigate walking through campsites on way to toilet to avoid walking through mud. Average facilities but they kept them clean. With that said you can't beat the view. But a bit pricey at $45 for myself on a site I didn't use power on

Was a bit unimpressed. Facilities could do with a tidy up and couldn't get the stove tops to work so cooked in my van.

Was quite impressed by this place.
Awesome spot right on the lake and right next to the hot pools. Great spot for star gazing. 1 gig of WiFi was nice. Like others have said they are tight spots so your neighbours are right next to ya. The driveway was also pretty dusty when cars went in and out. Try get one further uo the hill if you can. Would stay again

Nice newish place in a central location.
The young British chap running the place was helpful and cherry. Unlimited WiFi through out the ground was nice. Only thing stopping me giving it a 10 was the price. But hey that's Queenstown for ya. Although they did do a discount for 3 nights in the end. ($28 per night 1 person)

Stayed here one night on my way to Wellington.
I was the only one there and it was quite a bizzare little spot. You could have filmed a horror movie there haha. But no it was OK enough apart from the train running right behind it somewhere behind the trees. Woke me up in the middle of the night. Quite liked the big spooky forest with camp fire type log seating. Could imagine in Summer it is pretty cool

A leaking urinal that flooded the bathroom floor.
Pros-amazing location
Beautiful grounds
Right on the beach
Friendly staff
Cons- no hand wash in bathroom on both nights (not on especially with covid around)
I know it happens but it took a while before they cleaned the floor. Glad I had shoes on. Those were my only qualms. Would stay again.

Wasn't overly impressed when I first arrived.
Got in at 9 am and hoped for an early check in. The place was barely quarter full so plenty of spaces available. She wouldn't budge and told me to come back at one. I asked if I could pay for my night then and there and quickly use the communal bathroom to freshen up. Not a chance. I had to wait until 1! The $26 a night price tag is pretty steep for what it is. Showers were annoying on a 6 minute timer. The first minute you'd wait for it to warm up.

Brand new campground so facilities were very nice.
Spotless bathrooms and showers. WiFi through out the campsite. Massive kitchen and a great TV room to relax inside if it's raining. Will look great in a few years when the gardens have matured. Would stay again.

Bit of a dusty ugly site.
Toilets pretty grubby and not sure how often they're cleaned. Mind you it's cheap enough at 10 bucks a night. Look like a few dodgy long termers have made it home though

OKish place.
Weather was horrendous when I stayed though which gave it a bit of a damp wet vibe everywhere. Close to hikes. Facilities could do with an upgrade. The stove tops are useless. Was easier to bring my own stove in and cook.
