Beautiful natural campground.
Sites a good size. Stunning views of the lake and mountains and birdsong all around! Lovely owners. Only $1 for a 7.5 min shower, plenty of time to shave your legs! Enjoyed a walk along the Clutha river to Albert Town where there is a great pub and Pattissiere. Can either walk to Wanaka or it’s a quick 10 min drive. Will definitely be back!

Just avoid!...
grotty little camp and not that close to the city, still a fair walk there and back. Dirt or grass sites. No paths so muddy shoes in your van. Ugly, run down surroundings. Only 2 showers for women but men had 3 so queues in the morning and temperature fluctuated wildly. Fairly clean though Kitchen a bit smelly. Recycling and rubbish bins full to the brim. $40 for 2 on a powered site was not value for money at all. One of the worst camps we’ve stayed in on our travels in South Island.

Beautiful spot in park like setting beside a creek.
10 mins out of Gore but worth the drive. We were the only ones there the night we stayed. Toilets ok, kitchen and shower basic and could have used a sweep out but perfectly adequate. Great hot shower though! Great value for money at $10pp for a powered site. A few sandflies here and there but not a major problem. The only downside was the dump station was across a wet soggy field so not that suitable for heavy vehicles after a decent rain. Other dump stations available at Gore though. Would definitely return!

Okains Bay is glorious, there’s an amazing cave to explore and the sunrise is breathtaking!
Unfortunately didn’t really like the camp site. Looked a bit shabby and uneven ground. Old pine trees block the view to the beach and many more have been cut down in the camp and used as garden edging or their stumps left where they are. Felt like we were on an old forestry logging site and did wish we’d gone elsewhere. Having said that, the facilities were spotlessly clean and couldn’t fault them. Shower was $2 for 4 mins and worked completely fine.

Godley Head Campsite

Totally stunning spot.
Scary drive up (for me...hubby was fine!) in our 7 metre bus as road quite steep and very narrow. Some spots have views of Lyttelton Harbour and also of Christchurch, the Alps and coastline right up the East Coast. Sunrise from the WW2 gun batteries was incredible. Thourougly recomend this spot! Apart from walkers, we had the place to ourselves. Only reason for 8/10 is very basic amenities for the price. Book online at least a few hours in advance. We didn’t and waited for a gate code a couple hours then had to ring, but it was quickly given to us over the phone.

Great little spot, had a site with an amazing view of the bay.
Would recommend this place and would stay again. Only downside for us was the showers weren’t hot enough and not much space to change afterward and nowhere to put your clean clothes or toiletries inside the cubicle. Very clean and tidy camp though and a fantastic pub within walking distance that served huge delicious meals with delightful staff.
