Not sure if we found the right place or not but my thoughts are that we did.
There was no signage for over night camping or camper vans but there is a parking lot in this location as marked on the map next to the public restrooms. It is a paid lot by day but it is free parking from 1530-0800, because of the free parking and there were no signs stating that you could not park or camp there I feel that this is free game to self contained camper vans also next to a 24/7 toilet. We did not want to take the risk so we moved over and camped near the iSite in town by the river.

Clean everything, nice showers, bathrooms, and laundry.
Close walk to the harbor and to downtown to have a pint or two. Friendly and helpful staff. Multiple different types of sites, even non power van parking.

Large open area, feels like disperse camping in the woods and not a car park.
Clean pit toilets, no showers or water. It was very windy when we were there so no catch to swim or fish. Also no surf waves at the time.

Lots of spaces, clean bathrooms open 24/7, great walking around town.
Also this car park is next to a park for some extra space to hang out and relax comfortably.

No bathrooms or water, but not a far walk through town to find a bathroom.
The camping is in the row of parking spots Northeast of the iSite along Moutoa Quay facing the river. The park was clean and easy close walks to bars and bakeries in town. Late at night on a Friday there seemed to be locals playing loud music and doing drugs but they went away later in the night.

Beautiful views, good food if you choose to go in or most people were cooking in the parking lot.
Wifi is only turned on part of the hours, also bathrooms are not open 24/7, no showers or water fill up. It is very close to caving and black water rafting. Owners/staff very friendly and welcoming for a homey place.
Hi, glad you enjoyed your stay.
You can fill your water here, just ask and we'll show you where :)
We have beautiful spring water here.

Close to the roadway for lots of loud traffic, very crowded and little parking, people were loud with music and TV.
Bathrooms were filthy and strong odor of ammonia.

Large space for multiple people, great views come early to get a spot right on the beach.
Clean bathrooms, cold showers and water. Even with how many people it held it was a quite and respectful place. Bring your own surf board for this one.

Limited spots in this car park, but right next to 24/7 bathrooms, in town so its easy to walk to any food or drink place.
Next to a river and a short walk to the beach. Quite and clean with no problems for us.

Arrived late without reservations.
Found a spot for our self contained camper van. The kitchen and bathrooms were clean. We were able to self pay in the morning before the reservation desk opened.

Great free spot in the heart of downtown, must come early to get one of the limited spots.
The bathrooms were not bad but they do not stay open 24/7, also no showers or water fill up.

Our no power camper van site was right next to the beach/bay access.
Clean bathrooms and showers with water fill up and dump stations. Nice to have a foot bridge that goes over the harbor to be able to walk into town for a drink or dinner. Close driving access to the surf beaches.

Owner/staff at the tavern were very friendly and welcoming.
Bathrooms clean and open 24/7, no showers. We had a couple of pints and some wedges while we stayed, signage said participation not required but it felt god to support the family. The camping is in a grassy area next door, clean and quite, woke up to birds signing that was amazing. The area is overly al rural and quite we would stay here again. Also nice to stay in a freedom camping spot that's not just a parking lot for a downtown.
