Facing Lake Pukaki, this was a great stay for the night.
No facilities available. You may also walk along the Lake, which is lovely! The site is easy to get to from the main road. This is part of the dark sky reserve so on a clear night, you will be able to stargaze at night.

Now known as “Orange Sheep”, this site relies on self check in.
It is quite a big site. Affordably priced. There is wifi but it was not reliable most times. The kitchen is very basic. Toilets and showers are okay. Go early for a spot as spaces get filled quite quickly (perhaps because of the popular area but limited camping spots).

Facing Lake Hawea, this was a fantastic site to stay for a night.
There are a few toilets, a washing area and a shelter, but otherwise no facilities. You’ll drive about 15 minutes on the gravel road to get to the site, and about 20 minutes to the carpark to climb Isthmus Peak.

Go early as spots are limited if you wish to face the mountains.
No facilities. Only for self contained vehicles (or risk a fine!). Priceless view of the mountains. Drive up to the space is about 20 minutes from the main road.

We stayed on a good day when we could see the mountains surrounding us - this was fantastic.
It is a popular and crowded site given that there aren’t many sites at Mt Cook itself. There are toilets but no showers. A shelter too. Next to the Hooker Valley Track.

At $29 for an unpowered site at Christchurch, this is a very affordable site.
We stayed here on our first and last day of our holiday as it was close to the airport. No issues with its facilities. Wifi may be purchased (which we didn’t do).

There are toilets a short walk away, but no shower facilities.
There is a shelter too. Quite a small space, but for a night and if you were climbing Avalanche Peak for example, it works well. $8 per pax.
