This is worth the drive out of town.
Really spacious sites. Great lake views.
We took a non-powered site for $38 (2 adults, kids under 4 free) and were right on the lakes edge.
Showers and toilets are decent, some of the smaller toilet blocks further out on the site aren't too great but they are kept clean.
The kitchen and lounge area are good with some sofas for chilling out.
Decent playground to keep kids entertained.

$50 per night non-powered for 2 adults, a 3 year old and an infant.
So nice that we spent 2 nights.
The non-powered sites are right at the top of the beach so if you're brave and carefull you can get your campervan nicely postioned to take full enjoyment of it. The sunrise is absolutely stunning from this location.
Decent facilities, a bit old however they give it a good clean daily. Nice playground for kids and a decent little camp shop on site.

Rather expensive at $65 for 2 adults with a 3 year old and a baby.
Also the sites are small and it feels like they're cramming everyone in like sardines just to increase their revenue.
This was our first site after picking our campervan up so we've learnt a lesson.
Positives are that the facilities are really good, plenty of showers and toilets, ple ty of cooking and washing up spaces in the kitchen. Children's play area conveniently located by the kitchen and sit down area.

Pricey at $65 for a night on a non-powered campervan site, but...they are right on the beach, and the non-powered sites are directly facing the beach, so that was fantastic.
Facilities are decent but limited, the site was rather empty when we were there but the kitchen and toilets\showers were full. I cant imagine that they'd cope if the site was actually full of campers.
Hi Kerry, thanks for your review, we appreciate all feedback. As you say our facilities are busy, we had almost 70 guests that night, and we do have plans to expand them over winter. The price of $65 was for a family of 4 - absolute beachfront.
Hope you enjoy the rest of your NZ travels.

We arrived, looked around and thought it was a beautiful spot so we paid the $16 fee and set everything up...then they came for us...
BEWARE
Sandflies from HELL!!!!
And the most insane horde of bumblebees that we've ever encountered.
They appear immune to repellent and we had to hide in our campervan, even nightfall did not stop them.
The next morning it was raining yet there they were clinging to the side of our vehicle waiting for us to emerge.
Better off staying in Reefton or just keep driving.

$40 for 2 adults on a non-powered site.
3 year old went free.
Really friendly guy at reception .
The sites are a decent enough size on grass and with vegitation and trees inbetween to give some screening.
The facalities are old but kept clean.
The showers were $0.50 but we never needed them as we went to the hotsprings in the late afternoon (within easy walking distance)
Really nice childrens playground next door and a outdoor fitness circuit as well.

Decent spots with a bit of space between and some shrubs to divide things up.
$58 for a night with a campervan (2 adults, 3 year old and a baby)
Good facilities, nice kitchen and toilet\showers.
Really great playground for kids, also a nice indoor games area and separate lounge area in case it rains (which it did for about an hour)

$45 for a night with a campervan on a powered site.
(2 adults, kids under 4 free)
Really lovely setting with the sites spread out between towering ferntrees giving a real rainforest feel. Nice kitchen and eating area. Free BBQ facilities right in front of the children's play area which was brilliant.
Showers and toilets were decent but small.
Short walk to the hot pools so we didn't actually need to use the camp showers.

Nice spot just across from the beach.
Good facilities especially if you're travelling with small children.
They charge for 3 years and up, we paid $53 for 2 adults, a 3 year old and an infant for 1 night non-powered

Basically a parking lot.
Its an inverted L shape with the bottom section facing the ocean.
We arrived 3pm on a friday and the ocean facing was full, by 7pm the complete lot was packed.
Great place to watch the sun set, toilets are decent enougj considering they're public.
We were with our small kids so the next morning we went to the nearby McDonalds for breakfast (mainly for the kids to use the play area)
