Amazing place.
Expensive but worth it. Pay extra for the view. Toilets and showers spotless. Lots of fun activities close by. Easy walk to town. Level sites with nice grass. Dump station and water at site. Nice sunsets. Would come back again for sure.
Love that you love it Mike. We hope that you DO come back again and we look forward to welcoming you.

Paved car park right by government gardens.
We were worried after reading other reviews we wouldn’t get a spot but we got the last open spot at about 1530pm in January high season. Easy walk to downtown restaurants and bars. Public toilet is close but not sure if open late...can go to close by shops if necessary. In the morning there were a few campers parked outside the allowed camping spots with no problems.

We arrived around 130pm on the day before our trip to Picton (January 2020).
There were three spots left at that time, last spot filled at about 3pm, saw multiple people coming in after that who failed to get spots. It’s a parking lot at a marina but there are two clean flush toilets, and fresh water and a dump station. About a ten dollar Uber into downtown. Perfect for what we needed. You’re packed in tight but who cares for a quick visit.

Definitely the worst top ten we’ve stayed in, but driving distance to downtown (or a very long walk) and the couple that runs it are super nice.
Overpriced and don’t expect the best facilities but it wasn’t gross or anything, and works for location if needed.

Free camping right beside the lake.
If you drive on past the first campsite you get a nicer site closer to the lake, but the toilets are at the first parking lot, there are tons of spots there in a big paved lot. Quiet and a nice stop for us on the way to Waitomo

Small car park right by the beach.
Clean toilets close by. Space for about 8 campers. Loved it.

Depending on the site you could be packed right on top of your neighbour.
Had to close our windows and use earplugs to drown out the snores. However bathrooms are spotless and it’s a ten minute walk into town. Nice staff.

We loved this place so much, wish we could have stayed more than 2 nights.
Tons of parking, can’t see how it would fill up. Varied spots among the bushes, along the beach, and set back. Lovely waves crashing and beautiful beach (pebble beach). 2 flush toilets with no lights, also no toilet seat, but cleaned regularly.
