The good news - penguins!
Clean site with good facilities, if a little crowded (big queue for showers in the morning). The bad news - right next to the rowing club where they blast loud music. The friendly site manager went to ask them to turn it down but they refused. I went and asked them myself and they said “it’s not a library.” Super rude. I know the park has little control over these louts but just wanted to warn potential campers about lack of quiet. Nice children’s play area and you can walk to the penguin colony for the evening show!

Very nice spot with lovely beach.
Drop toilets were the cleanest I’ve ever seen, thanks to a friendly lady who came to maintain them. Crowded. I was annoyed to see someone had left a wad of toilet paper on the ground and had clearly peed there. For God’s sake, use the toilet! It’s not rocket science! Not too windy and no sand flies.

40 dollars for a powered site for two people.
Showers cost a dollar for five minutes. Sites are crowded together. Kitchen was clean but no plates, cups/glasses, knives, cutlery, silverware, tin opener etc. had a nice cheese grater. Free strong WiFi. The beach is lovely. I did see one penguin, which was lovely. No water at sites.

For the view, for seeing Milky Way at night, I would give this a ten.
However the sand flies are multitudinous! When it’s windy it’s no problem and after dark it’s no problem. Otherwise it’s swarms! That said, I would definitely camp here again. Shelter is great, pit toilet is okay. Just around the corner on the road is a flat spot with incredible views!

Quite expensive but if you can afford it, definitely worth it!
Really great facilities for camper vans. Clean and well supplied. Plus you can stay overnight right at Milford Sound and catch one of the early, less crowded boat trips. You can also take a walk along the shore of the Sound in the evening when nobody else is around. That’s priceless!

Really great view of the lake - very few sandflies but some larger houseflies with annoying buzzing.
Lovely clean flush toilets. No drinking water. I could have stayed here for a week, just lying around by the lake, swimming, kayaking, relaxing. Ideal for families. I had good 4G and cell reception.

We had a spot right on the beach.
Wonderful facilities with BBQ and everything you need. Kea parrots came squawking around at dusk. Don’t feed them! Just revel in their glory! Best thing aside from super friendly host was nonstop soundtrack in showers of Police “Synchronicity” album. This site had me wrapped around their finger!
😊😊❣️ a do do do, a da da da is all I can say to you 😂
See you again on your next trip.
Take care

I have got to say I loved this spot.
We got there early and there were just cars with boat trailers. Later a second camper showed up. It was super peaceful and quiet. Small public toilet in the car park next door. We didn’t go across the street to the historic hotel but it looked nice.
