Good spot, right on the beach.
Exposed if windy! Great toilets and if all the spots are taken go around to shingle beach. No one there and it is allowed to freedom camp for self contained only! No toilets at the second spot!

Good place, with camps for larger vechiles.
Super close to town but no noise at all as it is a quite town. Right on the water which is good! Only a 7 because it is really just a car park

Best view I’ve seen on a freedom camp, can have a swim in the water and Mt Cook is overlooking the beautiful blue lake.
Toilets are drop toilets 4 of them. Heaps of space to camp on gravel

Amazing spot, plenty of places to camp with vans or tents!
Toilets are good, nice cooking and washing facilities. Epic info on the history of the spot too! $8 pp per night. Gorgeous views of the lake and snow capped mountains! Last spot with sandflies if you are heading back east!

Nice spot for a stop!
Take care if swimming, current is strong. Waterfall is nice. Good toilet. If you’re a kayaker this is a must stop so you can paddle down the falls!

Campgrounds are good, open fields with epic wind protection if needed.
The lake is contaminated with algae so you’re not actually meant to swim, don’t drive out here if you wanna dip! Nice toilets and very helpful ranger lady :) mayflys are everywhere but don’t bite so all sweet. The no swimming brings it down from a 8 to a 6

Beautiful wide spaces marked out by large rocks which makes it much nicer than just a car park, good toilets and right on the lake.
Warmest swim I had in NZ. Good walking tracks right by the spot too!

10 bucks a night per person, pretty much a freedom camp you have to pay for.
Super busy with young locals, everyone was pretty tame after 9:30 though! Nice view of river too

Real nice view!
Right on the water, good hikes nearby. If you have a tent, pack a nights feed take a 1 hour hike and camp on beach. Blood great spot, think there was a toilet somewhere but I didn’t use it.

The best campsite out there!
Peaceful and large. Small stream surrounded by hills! Bypass the town and get out here, you won’t regret it

Could not find these pools if my life depended on it!
The road has fallen away in sections and when I got to the bridge as what was written in the review below we had no idea where to go next! Got completely lost, but it was a cool walk and adventure anyway :) could someone post new directions if they know how to find these

Nice car park looking over the ocean, new drop toilet just behind the bushes.
Don’t come here if windy, all in all. Good quite place to stop!
