Easy to find but very crowded.
The only water tap did not work. It was cool to camp this close to the beach, which was covered in driftwood, but I would not stay there again.

Lovely campgrounds with clean and well-equipped facilities.
We really liked the kitchen and TV lounge (one room), a cozy place to prepare and eat your meal and relax a bit inside on a rainy day. Staff was really helpful and welcoming.
Hello Tanja,
Our communal kitchen & lounge has recently been renovated, we have tried to make it a clean, spacious area for people to relax & enjoy.

Don was absolutely lovely!
Not only shared he a ton of recommendations of places to visit and things to do with us, but he also let us pick a whole pot of raspberries and a range of different veggies from his garden which tasted amazing! There is a compost toilet, fresh water and a box where you can plug in and charge your electronics. The campsite is by a river and the grass and flowerbeds are the best looked after ones you will find! Thanks, Don, for having us!

Can only repeat what others have said: It was by far the best camping experience we have had!
We drove past the power station and turned towards the lake at a toilets sign to find a lovely spot by the lake that we had all to ourselves. When we woke up at 3 am we could see trillions of stars, some shooting stars and the Milky Way. In the morning, we had clear view on Mt Cook which was also breathtakingly beautiful. I wish I could live there - you have to go and see it yourself. As others said, there are no facilities, except of course the compost toilet that we turned at. It was the cleanest and least smelly ones I have used. There was no toilet paper but that doesn’t hurt the 10/10 I award the pines!
On a side note: We had a small van and I am not sure if a bigger motor home would have been able to drive down to our spot ..

It was quite expensive to stay there and the campground is very large so ways to the facilities are relatively long.
However, the facilities were fairly new and super clean. Women’s showers had hairdryers, which was nice. Located right by the lake with stunning views if you are lucky enough to grab one of the spots facing the lake.
