This place is amazing.
Can’t recommend it highly enough! Go visit and fall asleep to the sound of the ocean.

Great little campsite - water is potable which is really nice.
-1 for sandflies, but those really come with the territory no matter where you might stay at Nelson Lakes. Cost is $15 pp and you can book online.

Great location to explore Oamaru on foot.
I showed up right before the office closed at 7 and I was lucky enough to get one of the last open spots. $25 for one person on a non-powered site is the most expensive I’ve paid in NZ and as others have said, the facilities are insufficient when the campground is full. I had hoped to shower in the morning but there was a line of 6 women waiting for 2 showers so I opted to pack up and leave early instead. The showers close at 10am which doesn’t help the situation! Also, I paid for wifi but it didn’t work from my van...I think it only works in the kitchen? (Still unclear about that.)

Not really sure how you could say anything bad about this place...friendly people, beautiful location, clean toilets, hot showers, great kitchen facilities for $16 pp.

Toilet is OK. Be sure to bring water!

Crowded, but absolutely beautiful!
All water there is drinkable and toilets were clean. Amazing place to stargaze on a clear night. (If you are coming for the stars, check the moonrise/set times and plan around those!)

Beautiful spot with lots to explore.
Flush toilets, potable water, and a sink for doing dishes. Windy and not much shade, though.

I didn’t stay here, but I couldn’t find any other way to submit an info change on this app without submitting a review.
It did seem like a lovely place but the cost is actually $20 w/o power and $30 w/ power; there is no “free” camping as others have alluded to. I considered staying anyway but due to rain I opted to continue driving.

Beautiful setting...surrounded by streams, mountains, and wildflowers.
Pretty busy/vans parked next to each other, but what can you expect? Toilets were fine/as expected.

Wow...what a beautiful place.
I would come back here in a heartbeat. There is so much hiking (trekking) to do here! Sandflies present but manageable. Be sure to bring everything you need with you...the drive back into town (Takaka) is pretty long! All water is potable; toilets are clean; showers are cold.

Great spot: Clean, quiet, one block from the beach, and only $5 per adult!

Really great little site; stopped here twice this month.
First night was chill; second night happened to be completely full, with some noisy campers talking loudly past midnight...really a shame, and disrespectful! But the facilities here are great and I was happy to leave a donation.

No complaints here!
Weather happened to be terrible so I stayed in my van. Toilets smelled terrible but for $5/adult it’s still a great deal in a pretty spot. All the running water is potable which is nice too!
