For a $5 voluntary contribution we got a sheltered place to park and a clean toilet - within an hour or so of Christchurch.
The village area has a playground for kids and access to a pretty wild pebble beach (no swimming). Friendly and chatty local showed us where we could park and a few other vans showed up (early December) but otherwise very quiet. The camping area is mainly for fishing enthusiasts and is scruffy with no view but it served our purpose.

Outstanding in every way.
Friendly and helpful reception staff, useful and free shuttle into town, clean and modern showers and other facilities, good, quiet atmosphere. So good we stayed three nights. Highly recommended.
