If I could I would give 11 of 10 stars for this spot.
It is very close to the beautiful beach of Caroline Bay and also in a walkable distance to the nice little town centre of Timaru. Moreover there a good and clean facilities, rubbish bins, drinking water, changing rooms and even showers. One of the two showers is almost a private shower - if you have a friend who can stand in the little gap between the cover walls you can have a shower without being observed. The best about this spot is that it is not far from the penguin colony. At sunset or sunrise you can observe the little penguins coming from or walking to the water. It is magic!

It is a big carpark next to a cafe where you can stay overnight.
There aren't any facilities but for one or two nights it is just fine. Even though it is close to the highway it was not too noisy.

Beautiful campsite in walkable distance to the town center.
Starting point of many walks in the area. Drinking water supply, clean and good facilities, plenty of space for 12-15 vehicles. There were some sandflies around but it could be much worse.

Wonderful freedom campsite.
very quiet, green and clean spot! Good facilities, drinking water and even a sink where you can wash your dishes! If it's raining you have a shelter for cooking. I don't know if the number of vehicles is limited for I saw no sign but there is plenty of space for 7-10 vehicles.
There were no sandflies around!

It is a very quiet and green spot with plenty of space and close to the village of Mount Somers.
There is a drop toilet but no other facilities. To us it wasn't a problem because you can find everything you might need such as public toilets, sink to wash dishes and drinking water in Mount Somers domain.

Good and clean facilities, fresh drinking water, location in the middle of the town!
Be careful to park in the designated area. From Friday to Sunday it is prohibited to camp there at all!

Nice and cheap campground (unpowered site: 15 NZD per Person), hot showers and clean facilities.
The only disadvantage was the kitchen - there are no kitchen utensils (such as pans, plates, ...) provided!
