Flat grassy lot with a toilet/shower block on it.
Nothing more nothing less. Some friendly permanent campers. Self check-in like a DOC site but with numbered spots. Toilet block could use a ckean, don't understand why people need to leave a mess for others. Didn't spot any rats as mentioned. Lots of pokekes tho.

At only a 15min drive from Napier this place is a gem!
It's next to a quiet road but at night there's hardly any traffic. Toilets are very decent. There are trash cans. The playground was perfect for pur little girl. And there's even free electric bbqs. At night we heard the mopoke owls calling eachother. And there's some chooks running about and hoping you'll'share a bit of food.

Scored last place of I believe 6 spots in a huge car park.
Next to the road over the bridge so a bit noisy. Clean toilets nearby.
Can't believe the council is so stingy with freecamp spots around here. The whole car park was empty but only a few spots for campervans.

Stayed on a Saturday/Sunday.
No space in the few allocated spaces when arriving at 19.00 but stayed in the carpark anyway like many others due to lack of freecamp spots in the area. Luckily no tickets. Very noisy due to local youth blowing up car stereos. Security guards patrols keeps it safe. Public toilets nearby but filthy in the morning, faeces all over the mens. Location is good however. Playground and supermarket in close distance.
2nd stay in Whangarei district and it is the worst district we've freecamped. Hardly enough spaces around.

This is an absolute gem!
You are right against the beach. There's a flush toilet with a sink. Park in backwards and leave the back open and have the best view from your bed! Our little girl loved it too. The sandy beach and relatively calm waves were the best playground.
The road there is windy but very good and absolutely gorgeous.

Location is great but only a handful of spots within a large carpark.
Very stingy of the council. Why not more space for campervans in an otherwhise empty carpark at night?? Just tell campervans to vacate after 8.30am so'they can at least stay the night.
Toilets nearby but no drinking water.

Bitumen car park next to rugby field.
Lots and lots of space for campervans. Very clean toilet block with running water, toilet paper and hand dryer. Lights on at night! Trashcans available.
Not the most beautiful spot we've freecamped but a very good and accessible spot nonetheless. Kuddo's to the council and volunteers involved.
