A large car park in the middle of wellington.
It is busy in the day but clears at night time and there is a toilet block on the other side of the park that’s next too it should you wish to use them. We originally wanted to stay at the free camping sites (all full) but found this to be a much better option in the end as it’s right in the centre of Wellington right next to Te Pata museum, harbour and central district with food and shopping. So glad we stayed here as you would need to drive in and pay for parking anyway. It’s $14 for 12 hours or $30 for 24hrs.

Quiet location.
Long drop toilet had lots of mosquitoes in as close to the water. Not many of the spaces are level which might be an issue for some. Right next to the rapids however and so u can enjoy the opening of the dam which is well worth experiencing.

Lovely little campsite.
We couldn’t find free camping and so stayed here and were very glad we did. Friendly staff, good pitches (be got one right next to the stream) and kitchen facilities. The shower block is a little dated but does the job. The best thing was the free kayak hire, you can paddle along a beautiful stream and then out onto the lake, not to be missed!!

Amazing site right next to the sea.
Little pockets of hedges and trees means you can fine a secluded spot for the night. Great toilet block and drinking water facilities. A little out of Napier but we found this to be considerably better than the free camping sites found there that were crowded and bad toilets. Worth the drive. For those looking for showers we found some for $3 next to the iSite in Napier, excellent facilities.

Lovely location right next to the beach and only a 10/15 min walk into town.
Views in the morning were beautiful. Only limited space but was empty when we visited in September. Toilets block closes at around 10.30pm and reopens at 6am, includes an open shower which we braved (very cold).

Good views but crowded and no order to where people park up, large site however.
It’s a bit of a free for all. Only 1 toilet for a very large site was a bit of an issue. Views are great if you can get a lake side spot.
