Fabulous friendly folk.
This was our favourite site on the whole of the South Island. Kevin and his wife made us feel at home, going the extra mile whenever they could. Everything is spotless and new. You can feed the eels in the river, cycle to the beach or visit the glow worm cave all for free! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. A&E

Fantastic remote site.
Spaces are limited so get there early. TOP TIP: Go past the shelter, up a small hill to find a secluded spot on the left with amazing views across the valley. Toilets are not good here and we couldn’t find any running water so don’t count on it. Sand flies are prevalent here so watch out! A&E

Highly recommend.
Lovely lay out and pitches. Ask for a powered site in the bush for a secluded spot. The on-site restaurant is incredible and very good value. A&E

Very expensive for what you get ($65NZ for two people on a powered site) but facilities are good and proximity to the town is great.
Worth staying a night to get laundry done and have a hot shower. A&E

Nice camp site with very pretty views of the lake.
The sand flies are in abundance here so best staying in your camper for early morning/evening to avoid getting bitten! Toilets are basic but clean and a covered cooking shelter has a running tap. For those interested this site has no phone signal. A&E

This is a lovely spot.
It’s well worth going past the car park, over a bumpy track to get to the secluded lake. The walk up to the dam is also worth doing but it is quite steep and muddy/slippery when we went. A&E

YOU MUST GO HERE!
Incredible star gazing if you get a clear night and the views are amazing. Toilets are basic and the shelter is very simple. Don’t forget to sign in and put your money in the slip. A&E

Great site just outside town.
Shower and toilet block are immaculate with lots of hot water. The communal kitchen has everything you need. Free 500mb of WiFi per device. Try the Hard Antler Bar down the road for some hearty food. A&E

Stayed here one night on our way down the east coast.
It’s essentially a car park but we had the place to ourselves and the views in the morning were great. There’s a sports club toilet about 250m from the site. A&E
