There are four carparks right next to each other in this free camp.
The traffic on the nearby road was very noisy, especially trucks slowing down and accelerating for the roundabout. Cars entered the car park until 2 am. No dump station.

This is an excellent free camp.
There is a dump point and a toilet block. There’s plenty of parking especially at this time of year. We really appreciated the effort the town off Lumsden had gone to to provide a nice camp.

The view from Godley Head is amazing.
The campsite is quite plain but the toilet facilities were neat and tidy. We were the only occupants though so it might be a bit busy in peak season. It cost $15 per adult and an early booking is a must because you need a code for the gate and it takes awhile for DOC to get that to you.

Hiring our campervan from Pacific Horizon in Christchurch was a great experience from start to finish.
The booking process was easy and efficient - I liked that the extra costs, like the road user charge, was included in the quoted price and that there were no hidden costs. We thought we got good value for our money. Michelle picked us up bang on time from our motel, and did a great job of explaining the workings of the van. The instruction book in the campervan was very useful and well thought out. When we had a query our phone calls were promptly answered and friendly, helpful advice was given. The drop-off process was also easy and Michelle drove us to the airport. Fabulous!
We had a 2 + 1 Mercedes Sprinter (5.9m) which suited all our needs. There were two of us, and we slept in the two single beds, which we kept made up as singles all the time (accessing the vehicle from the front or the rear). This meant we had lots of sitting/lying space set up and didn't have to make beds at night time. The kitchen was well kitted out, I particularly liked that the cookware was good stainless steel. The bathroom was compact but worked - it was very handy having our own toilet wherever we went.
Thank you Pacific Horizon for your great customer service.

This is a popular free camp.
It has great facilities with a dump point and toilet block. A very short walk takes you straight to the bay where you can view the penguin colony for free. The penguins were very close and you got a great view of them. The port is very close but we didn’t find the noise to be a problem.

This campsite is located right on the beach athough there is a fence which blocks the view and the prevailing winds.
The staff were very friendly and even offered us delicious apples the locals had given them for campers. The shower is and laundry were clean.
Thanks for coming Keith & Kay, it's great to hear you enjoyed your stay here. We're so lucky being right on the beach and with everything nearby we sometimes never leave so our friendly neighbors like to look after us all! Enjoy the rest of your travels ...

This was the best holiday park we could find close to Christchurch.
At $34 it was reasonably priced. The toilets were clean and tidy although it was difficult getting good hot water. We were parked in a very open area with no privacy. Permanent residents had lovely pitches.

Love this location right on the Queen Charlotte sound.
We were the only campers and we enjoyed the peace and tranquility of this amazing cove. It costs $18 per person and the facilities were immaculately clean. The shower is required a one dollar coin.

This campsite had a lovely view overlooking the bay.
A powered site for two people was $44. Facilities were clean and staff were friendly.
