I have just returned from a marvellous month in NZ, travelling as a single, retired woman in my campervan home rented from Discover NZ.
Everyone at this company could not have been more helpful. On two occassions I had a query and both times just one free phone call to Tony got things sorted. I also changed my travel plans as the south island was so enjoyable and wonderful that I decided to leave the north island to another trip. This meant that I returned to Nelson instead of Auckland and this not only was 'no problem' but I was refunded my 'one way' charge. I became very fond of 'my' little van which was absolutely fit for purpose. It was an older model with lots of miles on the clock but safe and solid and with plenty of storage and equipment. The van itself, along with the excellent customer service - collection and return and back up, made for a worry free trip. This was in marked contrast to the experiences of several other motorhome campers I met. I heard some real horror stories and usually these were the bigger companies and often people had paid a lot of money for their van. I felt that I had real personal treatment - big thanks to Tony and to Lee, Ariel, and Charlie . I thoroughly recommend Discover NZ and will certainly use them next time - got to come back now to do the north island!

Just back from a wonderful month in New Zealand travelling around in a campervan.
I must say that the twenty four hour Fiordland Navigator trip to Doubtful Sound was a real highlight. At first I questionned if I should spend the money but certainly now feel it was excellent value and well worth it. The ship was just perfect - right size, well equipped and the crew friendly, efficient and very customer focussed. Shared a quad cabin which worked out fine and one of the great things as a single older woman was the mix in the passengers. Great fun, met some super people and this was helped by really excellent food - snacks, dinner , breakfast all very good indeed. We were fortunate in having wonderful weather so could kayak and swim as well as seeing the seals , lots of birds and of course the magnificent scenery, stars and - oh bliss- real silence! Cannot recommend this trip enough and so good to have the full 24 hrs. Hope you get there....!

Probably my favourite site from a month's campervanning in NZ.
Such a beautiful location, my van directly overlooking the lake and mountains, good facilities, really friendly and helpful campsite owners and great to be able to hire a bike to ride round the lakeside to Wanaka itself. And a sensible price for a single traveller. Don't be put off by the dirt road to get there - well worth the bumps. Lovely!

An unplanned trip but one I was very glad to have made.
The boat was fine and it was really good to have the jackets and binoculars. Most important the captain and crew (I think it was Nigel and Craig - apologies if names wrong) were both knowledgeable and enthusiastic about all the wildlife and went out of their way to get the boat to where we would see the most. We saw the nesting great albatross from a distance but lots of other albatross and other birds out at sea and also a spread of krill which was attracting the birds. We saw the spoonbills nesting and great groups of seals and had excellent explanations about behaviours - the beach masters and so on. All in all an excellent trip and good value.

A really lovely site, straight from my campervan for a morning or evening swim and a small 'non commercial feeling' site.
Excellent customer service and brilliantly clean and efficient facilities. Lovely to be this distance from Nelson ( about 20 mins) not too near, nor too far. I spent three nights here and there were lovely walks, swims and nearby activities ( horse riding).Plus a nice cafe next door and stunning scenery. Highly recommended.

This was a wonderful find!
A genuine eco camping site right at the very top tip of South Island, a kilometre from Farewell Spit at end of a gravel track. Small, lovely setting, great walks all around including marvellous beach, rock formations, seals, gentle hills, on DOC land. Dion and family are really committed to a sustainable existence and the facilities are excellent. Lovely big kitchen/get together room, new and clean showers, eco loos, laundry etc. And the sort of place where you meet really nice people ....
