Small freedom camping site in car park directly opposite the Polynesean spa.
This site fits 15ish campers and was filled by 5pm (we were here in June). The only other freedom site in Rotorua only has 3 campervan spaces so I’d plan to get here early.
Lovely little site with a waterfountain and public toilets (turn left towards the bowling club) although these closed at night. Free WiFi from Polyneasan spa which is open to 11pm for bathing/showering!

Car park behind the national museum.
Close to main highway but not too noisy- free WiFi (no password), space for approx 15 campers (arrived around 6pm in June and 6/7 campers already there). No toilets outside opening hours (9am-4.30pm) and we couldn’t find the free public toilets. Safe, secure, great stopover point.

Lovely secluded grass/gravel spot with views directly over the lake.
Public toilet which seemed to be open all night. Large campsite with room for 40ish+ campers. We stayed in June and approx 20 campers parked here.

This site has only three spaces which are basically filled up first thing in the morning.
We tried twice and didn’t get in. Very quick access ;1-2mins walk) to lake and 5-10mins into town centre. If planning to go, aim to be there early and have a back up option
