There were two levels of interest going on the night we joined the Okarito Kiwi tour; the first was experiencing kiwi in the wild, and man did we do that.
Not only did 'Whiteeyes' come out to feed in front of us before returning to the bush non the wiser, but to see him under a fat full moon and the Southern Cross, standing beneath the big Rimu trees in the middle of the swamplands with a serenade of Moreporks and distant kiwi calling...amazing.
The second was seeing Ian in action, he's the genuine article, utterly focused on finding his clients kiwi while being completely respectful of the bird, and asking a level of involvement from all that makes it your experience. Even while working for a safari company in Africa I've met very few guides to equal his combination of knowledge and skill.
Cheers Chris for your great kind comments. Thanks for making the rewarding effort of driving nearly 2 hours each way for my tour !!! I am really pleased with your efforts.

Definately the best place in NZ to view waders, be in awesome spot, and get a real insight into the birds beauty and amazing migration.
The visitor centre was really clean and homely and the accomodation amazing. Thanks to Keith and Maria for giving us such experties!
