We got the last space 3.30pm and many people drove past after that so get here early.
Quieter than expected for a car park. Handy for town. Flushing public toilets a 3 minute walk. Saw a tap that said $2 for water but didn’t use it as we had filled up at the potable water tap outside the Duvauchelle campsite that is free.

Nothing special - simple site.
Quiet location at the end of a long winding road. Showers were $2. There is a kitchen but didn’t use it. It rained all night as per normal for west coast. Short walk to the beach.

Literally a car park in the middle of town.
Very convenient and the local showers were a bonus. The ladies there were very helpful and vigilant at keeping the showers clean. Only downside at the time was that there was some public maintenance work going on and they had commandeered many of the allocated camping spots but that is only temporary.

Greeted by very friendly, helpful staff member.
Used the showers. Excellent location for the night time penguin watch which went to with short drive back in the dark. Quiet road so no disturbance.

A little over crowded.
Kitchen had some utensils and pans. Used the showers and washer/dryers. Easy walk down into town but all uphill on the way back!
Stayed 2 nights. They have dump station and potable water. Not all water on Akoroa is potable (especially on the east side) and we were told anyone can fill up at the camp sites even if they are not staying there.

Better than expected.
Huge space so can’t imagine them ever being full. Showers and washing machine are extra but available. Beach is half a mile long and water shallow so great for kids. Zip line and some other climbing frames for kids. Dump station also. Only downside is no potable water. Couldn’t find any on east side of Penninsula. We went into Duvauchelle to fill up at the boat wash tap outside that campsite which is free.

Fantastic location looking up at the glacier.
No problem finding a space at this time of year (March). Flush toilets were fine. Perfect location for start of hikes.

Went out each day and we liked it so much came back each evening for 3 nights.
It starts filling up 4pm onwards but big enough to take a lot of vans. Had a swim each evening as can go out quite a way and still be in waist high water and sandy underfoot. Long drop toilet was not the cleanest and a queue forms in the morning. Noticed a patrol car come round one evening.

We arrived without a reservation and got the last spot at 4pm.
Most helpful member of staff helped us get booked for Doubtful Sound cruise by ringing tour company for us and reservation for Top10 in Te Anau. We used the courtesy bus into town and they then rang us to confirm they could pick us up on the later bus home that evening. Lovely showers too.

Waited for the car park to clear after 3.30pm to get a level parking space in top car park.
Comings and goings seemed to go on into the late evening, even after dark, and then started again from 4.30am onwards as people started an early hike. Great view of mountain. No facilities as just a car park but the toilets in the visitor centre were unlocked. It’s ok for one night stay.

Emailed ahead and got the last space for a 2 night stay as we were doing the Tongariro crossing.
Staff very helpful and we got the shuttle service booked with pick up right across the road. Free hot tub was lovely after the day’s hike. Only 2 showers but never had to wait. Used the modern washing machines/dryers. Water connection for each site but no dump station for miles! Did the Hike bought the T-Shirt.

Arrived without reservation but no problem despite the Blues &Jazz festival that weekend.
Nice stroll through the park into town late afternoon but walked back along the road after dark as the park was not lit. Used the showers. Only stayed one night.

Large grassed area which everyone parked around the perimeter.
If there were more people they would have had to park in the middle but lots of room. Self contained so didn’t use the toilet nor the sink. Nice and quiet. The tide went out and lots of beach to stroll around: even if the tide came in it didn’t look like it would get very deep.

It looked full by 6pm. Excellent clean flush toilets.

Very convenient for last night before dropping off the campervan.
Excellent place to come if you are starting as there were so many people leaving “stuff” such as loo rolls, food, detergent etc. Used the showers which were clean and washer and dryers. Friendly helpful staff. Nice and quiet and we had a short stroll over to the Groynes for a pleasant walk in the park.

Chose a nice spot for us with a view. Proper flush toilet was clean. Grassy areas and some have space for camp fire.

No facilities so difficult to say much.
Peaceful, quiet and lovely view over the lake. Nice area to stroll around and maybe do some fishing. Actually area for freedom camping a little confusing so make sure you check “the map” they have posted to ensure you are in the correct spot.

Terrific location on the beach with distant views of Mt Taranaki.
However it is a little old and tired and looks a little run down. Washing machine very old (could hardly read the dials). Had to pay extra for hot water showers. $5 for unlimited WiFi was good. Sand on the beach is black as coal but fine as icing sugar.

Modern, well kept facilities.
Camped in non-powered site. Excellent location for walk to Hot Water beach and we took one of their shovels. On-site fish and Chips was good afterwards. Breakfast looked good too.
Hi there,
Thanks so much for your great review, hope to see you again one day.
Kind Regards

Our first dry camp and it was lovely.
Shells on the beach and wading birds everywhere. Watch out for the waters edge at low tide as it is very boggy.

Thought $60 a bit expensive for a powered site.
Nice location, big site with parrots flying in the trees. Made use of the free hot tub. Office said they stayed open until 8pm but had closed up by 7.40pm.
