We did a one-way rental with Omega (NO extra fees for this which was a big deciding factor for us!) from Picton to Queenstown - the staff at both locations were friendly and made the check-in & drop-off
process extremely easy. Our car was new with all the gadgets & great on the highway.

Apex was able to hire us a last minute car (within 48 hours) on a one way rental from Queenstown to Christchurch.
The associate we dealt with in Queenstown didn't have the kindest attitude, but her efficiency was solid. The car we were assigned was clean, but we could definitely feel the wear & tear on it, as it took its time to get going again after any full stop or yield and sometimes sounded like it was running on dead batteries. The associate in Christchurch was kind and made the drop-off process easy.

5 spots back onto a stream with some tree cover.
Quiet & across the street from Police Station. Short walk to the main street and 2 minute walk to public washrooms which were open late (maybe 24 hours?) and cleaned overnight. Nice & easy stopover for one or two nights! FYI these spots fill up fast.

We drove in from Auckland, and getting in from the main highway in the dark was quite sketchy - lots of sharp curves.
Would be easier to navigate in the day light.
There were 20-30 units when we arrived, so had to drive down a bit to grab a spot at the end, but it meant no one behind us. Views were GORGEOUS in the morning!
No amenities, no rubbish from what we could see. Great for a one night stop before moving on!
