This is a free campsite, but don't expect too much..
Although it is in nature, the facilities are not so great. Water supply is only from a river, but the toilets are much worse. Even though there are 4 of them, only one was opened and that was really something - everyone rather went to the woods... The only plus was the short walk you can take before going to bed.

Lumsden information center was truly a memorable experience and maybe the best campsite we have stayed at.
You find everything you need here- toilets, store, gas station and even hot showers. In order to shower just go to Foursquare, buy a key for $5 pp ($20 is a deposit) and then go to a community pool, where you can swim and shower. Lumsden is worth a visit for sure! :)

We have read all the reviews complaining about sandflies and thought it can't be that bad, we tried it, and now we have to admit - it's a nightmare!
The lake is beautiful, but you just can't enjoy anything here, everyone just spent the time in their cars... We have at least tried the Braeburn walk to escape the flies, which worked quite well :)

This campsite is perfect, nearby the city and the airport.
For $15/pp you will get access to hot showers, basic toilets, drinkable water and beautiful surroundings! Don't worry about the check in process, just enter the gate on foot and find the host.

This place is basically a carpark next to a café, but it's pretty nice.
You pay $5 per person (Either in a café, or later on to the owner Allan. He'll come and check eventually.). For showers you pay $6 extra. There is a free wifi and you can get to Waitomo caves within 30 minutes, which is great. :)

One of the most crowded places we have experience throughout our trip, so dont arrive too late.
All in all its super nice, for $13 pp, you get basic toilets, drinkable water and incredible views!

This walk starts at the end of Mangorei road, it is very well maintained and marked.
It takes approximately 2 hours to get to the hut and then 20 minutes to the lake. Pouakai hut was great, we stayed overnight for $15 and it was a really cosy night with fire. :)

Only 20 minutes from the highway you'll find this nice campsite near a rugby playground.
It's completely for free, there is plenty of space and good toilets. Also if the weather is good you can use a cold shower. :) Just be aware that there is no gas station and no shop nearby.
