Staff are very kind and helpful, made sure we had a lovely spot to camp.
Our favorite stay on our road trip :)
The owner stopped by in the morning to say hello and offered for us to take feijoas from her tree!
The venue is quirky with lots of charm, kitchen and bathrooms are very clean. Great free hot shower.
Has a walk to the beach where you pass cows and the get to say hello to the horses, be sure to take a walk down at night to see the glow worms!

Lovely out of the way little serviced campsite.
As other reviewers have said you aren’t getting massive sites with stellar facilities but that’s not what you’re coming her for. Oodles of charm, lovely rural surroundings; and a beautiful beach a 20 min walk away with glow worms enroute. Showers are amazing, brilliant hot water shower and cracking pressure.

I honestly could not fault this place at all.
End of story, what a lovely experience, without even doing any of the paid extras - I stayed in my tent last night - and the atmosphere alone was so lovely. Evening walk to the beach is a must, and the swing too if you’re brave !
Hospitality was amazing, even with it being a working farm the team is always around if you need

I was welcomed very nicely by one of their workers.
Powered site was 30$. The spots were on the smaller side but fine. Can‘t say much about the kitchen since I didn‘t use it, same goes for the horse riding. Toilettes were nice and clean, can‘t say the same for the showeres. They were free and hot, but the ones one the campsite were very dirty. The one by the house was a bit better. It is a nice walk to the beach and there it‘s just beautiful! Not the best side espacially for this price, since it was quite dirty and the facilities were rather small and some dirty, but it is a farm and it was decent for one night.

That really negative review almost threw me off Hack's farm.
Luckily I saw that exact same review on another campsite so I saw it to be BS.
Anyway, the campsite is really lovingly designed, each camping spot has its own character (benches, signs, plants, etc.), the toilets are clean, it has probably the best shower I've had in months (hot, good pressure, clean). The walk to the beach is signposted with a lot of humour and heart aand they put a yellow concrete sofa on top of a hill for you to watch the sunset. So great!!
Will definitely come back, even though I don't ride and am kind of wary of horses!

The best campsite I’ve ever been to in New Zealand!
The people are so lovely, welcoming and chatty its hard to put into words. Surrounded by bountiful fruit trees with friendly horses plodding around during the day. Colourful signs all over the place with sweet little messages that make you smile :) The facilities are excellent and the walks to the lake and ocean are great too. Couldn’t recommend highly enough - so worth the money! :)

We had an amazing experience at Hack n Stay.
Our four kids were taught patiently how to ride and were then taken on a 2hr horse trek across country and along the beach.
The team was friendly, patient and great to chat with and our young kids were thrilled and engaged by the whole experience.
Would love to do more!

15 pp, feb 2021 (unpowered), arrived late near 9pm and nobody was there, we payed the next morning.
Kitchen ok, baths ok and lovely hot showers. Never saw part of the staff, did see some horses and people walking by. Probably if you spend more time there you ll get a different experience, but it was OK for us.

I can't understand why people gave it 9/10 or 10/10.
Honestly being locals new zealanders
$15 not worth it.
Might $5 or 6 per persons
Unless they improve lot of stuff and especially their customers service!!!

Self explanatory
I honestly don’t understand the criteria for people to rate this place 5 stars!!! At least for camping, this was by far the WORST experience ever! The owners/staff just treat you as if they are doing a favor for you to be there, even paying NZ$15 pppn. Although THE OWNERS CONTEST MY REVIEWS, even having bbq and pizza oven, when I asked them to use it, the staff said it was only for guests. So, the tiny little camping kitchen was completely busy and we couldn’t have food until late that night. There is no oven available, just a small camping stove (see pics). There are written signs in the kitchen saying that cutlery and plates are available upon request on main kitchen only. According to the woofie worker I asked, the campers use to take them away, which I truly believe, however, when I went to the guest kitchen to ask for plates and cutlery, (otherwise I couldn’t eat), they looked at me as if I was not going to return them. Ridiculous. Pity seeing the horses living among these humans ;)
I agree with this one.
Campsite behind the barn is full of horse poo no where to pitch a tent.
And the whole site not child safe and friendly.
We had 2y 8m old child with us!
Don't go here.
Horse riding might be good not sure.
After experiencing customer service (this kinda service especially in new Zealand) put me off from trying their horse riding even!!!
Horrible experience
They did refund me through so i could leave from there and find a decent campsite.
Appreciate that and thankful for it.

This place is very nice, 20mins walking to beach, dog friendly, if u have a dog, walking to the beach and play a bit would be very nice.
Stuff are very friendly, But they could get confused sometimes when it's really someone booked the place or not. Stuff Anna is very nice and helpful girl. Shower is awesome, toilet is clean, kitchen is bit small, but clean.
Would definitely recommend this place

If you love horses and a cosy creative vibe THIS IS YOUR PLACE TO STAY.
With super friendly staff members, far more than adequate accommodation, hot showers, very clean bathrooms, comfy beds. Hack n Stay is a lovely place with character and comfort combined. Would stay here again in a heartbeat! Thanks so much for having us!

Very nice people running this camp and ride.
We didn't expect horses in such a good shape, cause we know it different from other holliday-rides. I ( never had any riding lessons) never felt so save
On a horse's back. Ellie did a very good job in explaining and telling me what to do.
This is a very nice place for people who love to ride and to explore nature on a horses back. ( Beginners as well as experienced riders)
The facilities are nice and clean, though not too big. But it is just a little campsite. During high season I'd recommend to make reservations or wouldn't come in too late.
