Information

Jim Barnett Reserve

Thirteen different tracks meander through the Jim Barnett Reserve. The tracks are of varying lengths, but all are easy walking with a few short, steep sections, negotiable for people of most fitness levels.

An area in the bottom left of the reserve has been cleared as a camping site which is equipped with a tap, toilets and picnic tables.

The Jim Barnett Reserves Management Committee is a dedicated team of individuals who have put in countless volunteer hours at the reserve, clearing tracks, building amenities and managing work crews that maintain the tracks.

Due to the birdlife in Jim Barnett Reserve, dogs are discouraged in the reserve.

Have stayed here a few times over the years, a lovely camping spot that has been ruined by the hoons coming in and destroying the grassed camping areas, came in today to camp but have moved on as due to

the damage caused, no longer seems a safe area for camping now.

Beatiful little cosy free Campsite with access to not only toilet and water but also a wonderful little bird reserve with a very nice trail through.

Only downside(s) I can come up with, is that the main road is a bit close by and the toilet is placed a short walk into the forest and perhaps not the cleanest/nicest of long-drop-toilets. If you’re a “Night Pee’er” remember a good flashlight :-D But all in all I really loved it and would totally recommend a nights stay there

    Long drop toilet.

Lovely surrounding bush full of birds.

    Easy to find with Google.

    Picnic table and chairs.

    Bush walking tracks.

    Excellent.

Nice quiet park up, we were the only ones there in late December!

The area had been visited by hoons and the grass all skidded up, but not the fault of the providers. The disappointment was no info saying "no dogs" but all the walks were dogs not allowed

Great spot on a grass reserve, surrounded by trees.

Plenty of room for large vehicles. Has a long drop toilet that was clean and free drinking water from a tap. Lots of treks through the Bush to explore with the kids and plenty of bird life, such as tui, fantail, moreporks and kereru flying around. Will definitely be back.

    Fantastic place for camping!

It’s free and there are a couple different grassy areas to set up a tent. One of these areas also has a few picnic tables to use. There are toilets and running water as well. It’s a beautiful spot, right in a glade of trees where you can hear many birds throughout the day but quiet down nicely at night.
