It is always a sad day for all of New Zealand , Tourists and Tour providers when they are targeted by thieves.
On this occasion the it was suggested to the families that they may want to leave a towel and warm fleece in our vehicle so they had something warm to put on after being on the river.
Our vehicle is parked at the take out point of the kayaks in order to shuttle the clients back to their vehicles at the end of the activity.
Unbeknown to us they had also put bags containing cameras, phones, keys, wallets, credit cards, and expensive clothing into our vehicle rather than leaving these items behind in a lock up at their accommodation or locking them in their own vehicle.
At no time did anyone in this party ask if this was advisable or inform us that they had done this.
As unfortunate as this this type of incident always is, when people are traveling anywhere they have to take responsibility and care for their own belongings
